Myles Williams 4/2/14 Writing Assignment

Throughout my adolescent years I recognize that Ive accomplished a lot. There has been a numerous amount of proud moments and great experiences throughout my childhood. Due to my desire to strive for better, of course I was never satisfied with just the average. Therefore, Ive experienced multiple astounding accomplishments that should definitely be acknowledged. However, though Ive done a lot, there has been one specific accomplishment that has stood out to me which I am very proud of. This year of 2014, North Atlanta High School, in which Im currently attending, was having a talent show. During the auditions I didnt have any intentions of trying out at all. Initially I just wanted to see the new talent that the school had. Especially with the school switching its current location to a new facility, I was excited to see any new students who were auditioning. As time flew by, I recognized that I had the same amount of talent as any of these students. I came to conclusion I would audition, however I wasnt sure what I would perform in front of the judges.

One of my strongest talents is poetry and spoken word. There was a poem I wrote called, Black Reflections which contained a high depth of intellect and consciousness toward our individual opinions of ourselves due to self-esteem issues. Also I used a variety of vocabulary, word-play, metaphors, and other literary devices. Due to stage freight, I figured itd be best once all the students cleared out the auditorium for me to recite my poem. Once everyone was gone, I decided to go one stage and audition. I introduced myself to the judges and recited my poem. I noticed I was stuttering on a couple of lines. This was due to me reciting this with no music. The judges were impressed and I earned a spot in the talent show. As weeks went by the date for the talent show constantly switched. This was due to difficulties with administration and the principal. Due to this I wasnt sure when the exact date of when the show was. We only had one rehearsal where I decided to add background music to my act. However, due to school studies I didnt have time to rehearse my poem like I shouldve. The night before the show I constantly rehearsed the poem to make sure I had it down pact. On the day of the talent show, everywhere I went, I had to repeatedly say the lines of my poem to see if I still remembered them. When it was show time I was still repeating the lines to myself to make sure I knew it. When it was my turn to go, the announcer actually called someone elses name even though it was my turn to go. I still walked out on stage with confidence.

When the music turned on, I completely went blank and it felt like I loss all consciousness. I recited some of the lines but then I lost memory so I mixed the poem up. Once I was finished I quickly walked backstage in anger. However, I didnt notice how many people were actually applauding me. Once word got to me that I actually had a great performance I felt great. Even though I messed up everything tended to work out in the end.
