Copyright Example Pg.1

Copyright has always been a controversial issue. Some people feel it is too strict, while others see it too weak. This is a Fictional story. Johanna was an accomplished writer and had many of her stories published. She had always been a great writer, even in school. Johanna had a habit of walking into the book store, looking at bestselling books and what genre they were. Johanna used this to keep ahead of the competition. One day after entering the bookstore, going to the bestselling rack, she saw a familiar title. It was called The Little Grasshopper. She could have sworn this was the same book she wrote in High School. She looked at the authors name: Drew Spence. She took a quick flip through the pages. She could swear it was her book. Drew had been her best friend. She shared everything with her, until they got in a verbal altercation. Ever since that day she had never talked to her. Now in the book store, Johanna stood in shock. *GASP* She immediately contacted her former friend. Drew answered the phone as if she had expected the call. Drew spoke, Hello buddy. she said in a sarcastic tone Youve probably seen my latest book. Johanna confronted her and demanded her to stop selling the book immediately. Drew refused, saying Its not yours anymore. You never published it, so its not protected by copyright. Johanna hung up the phone in anger. She thought, That couldnt be true.. She contacted her lawyer and was relieved by him backing her up. That isnt true Johanna. Copyright protects works from the moment they are created, as long as you have the original copy, it is your work. Fortunately Johanna had kept the original. She promptly got the book registered, then filed a lawsuit.

Copyright Example
Johanna thankfully got the rights to the book. Copyright helps protect authors in this way. Even if she was 90 years old when she found out, she would still have rights to that work.

Common Teacher Copyright Mistakes

Yes, it is true. Teachers commit more copyright fraud than most people. Remember that clip on YouTube? Or those lessons you copied out of the book? That was copyright fraud.
