Class Profile A.

Durdan As a Resource Teacher I see a class profile as the document that teachers will use to ensure that all of their students different needs are being properly supported. It can be easy to get caught up in planning and implementation of an activity, especially with a rotary schedule and many classes, and forget the fact that we need to plan according to our students. It can help us to see the similarities and differences in the students in our classroom to help guide our planning (Education for All, page 33). The class profile can act as a cheat sheet to keep beside you when planning as a reminder to include the different intelligences and to differentiate so that all students can be successful. The class profile is also a living document that changes with our students (as shown by the circular diagram on page 37 in Education for All). As our students progress throughout the year the document will expand to show these changes. The class profile has information that can be shared with the child and the parents to show what improvements have occurred throughout the year. It can be given to other teachers who will be working with the child the next year to see how the student has grown. It can also be used to justify comments on a report card or to help write an updated IEP. The class profile provides teachers with the information that they need to best plan for, assess and support each student in their class. The question that I still have about the process is how often should you update the document?
