Rama A. Sadiq Vocabulary course in teaching English as a second language Higher Education
Overview Vocabulary is important in any language. It is one of the bases in teaching a new language. The more vocabulary words students know, the better they are able to comprehend. A large vocabulary opens students up to a wider range of reading materials. A rich vocabulary also improves students' ability to communicate through speaking, listening, and writing. For this lesson, I am assigning the students to use web tools that helps them enhance their vocabulary (comic master & hangman flash cards by super kids) They will build a comic page, the concept of this paper is to create a short story using the learned vocabulary The other tool is to help and improve their spilling in an interactive way.

The lesson is designed to meet several student learning out comes:

Communication. In oral and written format, using technology appropriately. They can discuss notes with other students and paraphrase it. . Critical Thinking and creativity. Using appropriate tools and technology. Students can find synonyms and put the words in another sentences. Problem solving. Correct spilling mistakes Context Ill write the new vocabulary words on the board. Then read it once and ask the student to read after me. Ill tell them what part of speech each word is so I can ask them about it later on. Ill put the words that we read in a sentence. Then I will ask them to come up with another sentences. Ill introduce new web tools (comic master) & (hangman flash cards) to the class and talk a little about them . Then, well do one comic page in class as one group (use technology + game) to keep them entertained and not lose their interest. And well also learn spilling using (hangman flash cards) They will do one (comic master page) as a homework with the new learned vocabulary evaluating+ creating (Ill help them all to make an account at comic masters in class) so they will do the comic page at home and print their work. Checking their homework will make me determine if they know how to use technology, and understand their vocabulary lesson by using a complete sentence and accurate tense 1

In groups, search using an online dictionary what part of speech is the word (give each group four words) (make them familiar with technology) Ill ask them to study the new words because we will spill them the next class. I will also remind them to do the homework. Process: Blooms Taxonomy, Dales Cone of Experience and Multiple Intelligences The lesson is divided into parts and each part incorporates the application of the key learning theories from Blooms Taxonomy, Multiple Intelligences, Dales Cone of Experience and Experiential Learning. First, students start with lower-order thinking, by repeating the new words and coming up with new sentences. Then we will search what part of speech the words are using an online dictionary, As they progress through the lesson, students start working on activities that promote higher order thinking, creating a short story using the web tool (comic master) and the new learned words. This order of learning promotes the students as they go through various levels of knowing, remembering, understanding, applying and evaluating (Bloom's Digital Taxonomy, 2012). In Part 2 students will play a teacher role by asking their peers to spell the new words using the web tool (hangman flash cards). Giving the students the feeling they ate teaching is also a higher order thinking from their part as they will need to know, understand and remember the word they will ask their peer to spill. Teaching to learn is a good way to get students attention Finally, at the end of this lesson, students are expected to assimilate their learning and create another comic story as a homework using the web tool comic master. I believe that students naturally build up their learning through thinking - from lower order thinking skills to higher order thinking skills this help them to learn faster With this lesson I used the dual coding theory. When I designed the learning activities of this lesson I kept in mind that there are two cognitive subsystems, one specialized for the representation and processing of nonverbal objects and the other specialized for dealing with language. Learning the words then using pictures (comic master and hangman flash cards) help in understand, learn and memories the new words

Theory Dual coding theory is a general theory of cognition and mind. It originated in the 1960s to explain the powerful effects that mental imagery has on memory. It was first innovative by Allan Paivio of the University of Western Ontario. It has been described as one of the most influential theories of cognition this century (Marks, 1997).
