NAME: Hamza Hussain CANDIDATE/STUDENT NO: TEAM NAME: ndiGO SEMINAR GROUP NO: F3
Background The first assignment for the business game involved a presentation. This required all team members to present in a confident and coherent manner. The presentation was known to be a challenging assignment for previous years thus increasing the pressure on each student. As well as this it was the first assignment for the module thus making it vital to make a good start. Action(s) Taken During term 1 a limited number of slots became available for presentation rehearsals. Therefore it was vital for the team to attend to gain feedback and presentation experience, thus being better prepared for the real presentation. However due to the limited places for rehearsals not all team members could agree on a suitable time to attend. In addition some team members were not that keen on attending. Consequently, I had decided to get the team to agree to attend the rehearsal due to the level of its importance. Therefore I decided to use leadership skills as required in order to make the team agree. I had booked the presentation slot on WASS at a time that had suited the needs of each team member. Outcome Each team member had attended the rehearsal and had presented in front of senior lecturers. This allowed the team to gain feedback from the lecturers on how to improve the presentation. Also each member was given individual feedback on how to improve his or her presentation skills. We were able to improve our presentation making necessary changes according to the feedback given. The positive impact of the presentation rehearsal was evident, as we had gained a First Class for the presentation. Learning Mumford, Campion & Morgeson (2007) discuss leadership skills and write leadership skill requirements also includes the skills required for coordination of actions of oneself and others. Subsequently I had learned the importance using of leadership skills when required to make an important team decision.

Further Development

In the future I will research examples of effective leadership skills by successful leaders. Thus I will gain a greater insight into how successful leaders are able to use their skills to make effective decisions in order to improve team performance. References
