Background Throughout this year at University I have been finding an industrial placement for my third year. Consequently I have used the Business Game module in several ways in order to help me during the application process. It was necessary to consider what aspects of the module can help towards the application processes of various industrial placements. Action(s) Taken I had attended a PriceWaterhouseCoopers (PWC) employer event, which consisted of a skills session, presented by an employer. At this event I was able to practice competency-based questions for interviews. This allowed me to prepare how to implement aspects of the business game into my answers for interviews. In addition I was able to plan my answers during the event which allowed me to consider which aspect of the module are best to discuss for interview questions. Outcome By attending the employer event I was able to prepare for interviews for various placement opportunities. As well as this during the event I was able to prepare for competency-based questions based upon my experiences during the module. This was very beneficial for me as it allowed me to be more prepared for answering interview questions for various placements I had applied for. The benefit of using the business game for interview questions allowed me to progress to the final stage in application processes, which was the Assessment Centre. Learning

I have learnt the techniques required to successfully answer competency-based questions during interviews. As well as this I have been able to learn how to implement various areas of the Business Game into my interview answers. Further Development
The interview method of assessing competencies has been widely accepted and has led to a significant amount of research, (McClelland, 1998). From this I have decided that in the future I will look into the research that has been carried out into competency interviews, in order to gain a better understanding. By gaining a better understanding of these interviews I will gain a greater insight into how to answer competency-based questions during my interviews.
