Summary of the surveys

By Hailey Rouse This project is an attempt to make us aware of the possibilities and choices we have ahead of us. For future jobs and careers that we might want to pursue we took surveys that can help tell us what some of our best skills and assets are. We took four surveys the Career Cluster Survey, the Basic Skills Survey, the Interest Profiler, and the Work Value Sorter. The Career Cluster helps us learn how the activities we like, our personal qualities and our favorite subjects are related to Career Clusters. My top cluster was Arts, Audio-Video Technology and Communications. Which could mean designing, producing, exhibiting, performing, writing and publishing, including visual and performing arts and design, journalism and entertainment services. I agree with this because some of the jobs it recommended were Choreographer, Film/Movie Director or editor, Graphic designer, Music composer/Arranger, Photographer, Set/Exhibit designer and I would very much like to pursue any one of these jobs. The Basic Skills Surveys goal is to help assess my basic skills and match them to career options. My results reflect my current skill levels and I got a seven which is the highest the skill level goes on Reading comprehension, Active listening, Writing, Critical thinking, Active learning, and learning strategies. I agree with these results because some of the careers it recommended were Creative Writer/poet, Multimedia Artist/Animator, Editor, Music Director, and elementary or middle school teacher. I think these are all viable jobs that I might want to make a career of when I get older. The Interest Profiler figures out what interests I have and matches them to careers. My top interest areas were artistic and investigative. For artistic it says that I am a creator; I enjoy art of all types, including drama, music, literature, and poetry; it states that I like using my imagination and creativity; I prefer working in unstructured environments; and I have a need to express myself. For investigative it says that I am a thinker; I enjoy observing, learning, and evaluating; I like the challenge of think through problems; I prefer working on my own; and I often use science and math in problem solving. I agree with both of those because they both explain my interests and things I enjoy doing. The Work Value Sorter said my top work values were Achievement and Independence. For achievement it said that its very important to me that my work allows me to use my best abilities. That I want to see that results of my work and get a feeling of accomplishment. For independence it said that its very important to me that my work allows me to make decisions on my own. That I want to try out my own ideas and work with little supervision. I agree with these results because the possible jobs it recommended were actor, archivist, Audio-visual Collections specialist, Choreographer, commercial and industrial designer, Craft artist, Film/video editor, music director, etc. These are all that I would be thrilled to have a career in one day. In conclusion I think these surveys really helped me get an idea of what some of my best qualities and skills are. It showed me a wide variety of jobs that I might want to pursue when I get older. It also helped me learn more about myself. That I am artistic and investigative, that Im good with audiovideo technology, and that some of my best skills are writing, critical thinking, reading comprehension, etc.
