Science- As we are nearing the end of the Space unit, we are looking ahead to Forces and Motion. This is our Jet Toy Car project and students need to save the discs and sticks from the ice cream push ups. The Nestle Brand is an example of discs that pull off sticks. Start eating and saving! Social Studies- We are making battle folders to record the events of the Revolutionary War. Math- The Unit 9 test is on Wednesday. Students need to know how to find area of triangles and parallelograms and calculate volume. Many skills can be practiced on www.ixl.com/signin/nlsd so please encourage your student to log on! Language Arts: Next week students will continue to use text evidence and personal experiences to form inferences about text. In spelling, students will work with words containing im, -in, -ir, and il. In writing, students will study sensory details and will compose a paragraph that includes such details. The vocabulary quiz for lesson 16 will be administered Friday, April 11th. Science: Next week students will research an assigned planet. Each student will create and present a slideshow overviewing the information he/she learned.

Next week students will identify sensory details in literature. Students will apply this skill by writing a narrative paragraph using sensory details. Lesson 16 pronoun quiz will be Tuesday. Students need to know how to use subject and object pronouns correctly. Next week's focus in centers is making inferences. Lesson 16 skill quiz will be on Friday. Students can review vocabulary and pronouns on edmodo.

We are working on finding the area of triangles and parallelograms, and also on finding the volume of prisms. We will take a test on Unit 9 on Tuesday, April 8th. When we start Unit 10, we will activate some algebraic thinking by balancing pans and learning about variables. March Book-It calendars were due today. If your student did not turn it in, please have them do so on Monday. We will have a weekly reading homework packet this week. We will begin conferences for our second trimester book reports. We are continuing to write essays for the novels we finished. Block 1.2 is working on a Hatchet essay and Block 3.4 is completing their essays on Bridge to Terabithia. In grammar we will focus on "perfect" verb tenses. In spelling we will study words with unusual plurals. I hope everyone has a nice weekend!!
