BUSINESS MEETING – the initial steps.

Purpose

This proposal is submitted to facilitate the design of BUSINESS MEETING .It includes
the situation, a suggested approach, timeline, and expected investment for the effort.

The website will serve as a foundation for future online activities for the firm, aimed
at enabling the in house personnel ‘grow’ with the site and directly influence the
evolvement of the medium as a customer relationship tool. This will enable the client
justify the investment being made, through a stipulated return on investment
measuring process.

Technology to be Use

The technology that will be used include the following

ASP: 1: An abbreviation for Active Server Pages

2: The code inside ASP is mixed in with standard HTML and is NEVER seen by
the browser. ASP pages run in ALL browsers UNLESS the person making the
page uses HTML or browser commands outside of the ASP portions.

Static content doesn’t change. Most HTML pages are static. Every time you open one
with your browser, they say exactly the same thing. Dynamic content changes and
adapts to the situation at hand. When you go to your bank’s Web site and pull up
your bank balance, that’s dynamic content. It changes depending on how much
money the bank’s mainframe says is in your account at that instant. This ability to
provide up-to--the-minute information gives Web page authors a tremendously
powerful tool. Instead of just blindly providing information to the mass of users, they
could now accept information from individual people. Searches had been a part of the
Web since its inception, but now authors could collect information from their users
and provide customized content generated on the fly. This opened up a whole new
world of possibilities, from simple information retrieval to the current boom in
electronic commerce.

3
CGI remains popular today even though there are better solutions for larger projects.
This is largely because of its portability, with scripts written in languages that can run
on many different platforms. But CGI still has some issues with scalability and ease-
of-use. In most cases, every time a script is called, the CGI needs to start a new
process on the web server, execute the script, then clean everything up. In many
cases this is sufficient, but when usage grows, it can easily overwhelm a server.

In addition, while the traditional CGI languages, C and Perl, aren’t overly difficult to
learn, they can be a little intimidating for new programmers, effectively keeping
many people out of the dynamic content business.

Scalability is the ability to handle large amounts of activity. Some systems work fine
whether there are a small number of users or a deluge, as long as they have enough
hardware to back them up. Some, however, consume so many resources that beyond
a certain usage level, supporting them becomes extremely difficult, or even
impossible. Active Server Pages changes all that. Instead of running a program that
happens to spit out an HTML page, An Active Server Page is an HTML page that
happens to have programming command in it.

XML: XML is not dependent on any particular operating system; it's designed to
survive IT changes such as a move from Microsoft NT to Linux. It allows you to be able
to repurpose data quickly without moving to a new architecture or language. And it
allows you to build your own applications. It's also an open standard; you don't need
to pay anyone anything to use it; no special programs are required to produce xml
(just a text editor), and no single company controls it.

XML lets you create domain-specific markup languages (called XML applications.)
Some that already exist are WML (Wireless Markup Language), CML (Chemical
Markup Language), MathML (Math Markup Language) and VoxML (by Motorola, Voice
Markup Language for phone systems.) You may even be familiar with SVG which is an
XML application for delivering scalable vector graphics (thus the name) to web
browsers. You also see XML used a great deal for configuration and customisation
files.

These are very specialized markup languages that address specific needs. These
needs could not be adequately met by HTML. XML is also an excellent format for data
interchange. It is non-proprietary and easy to read and write. XML can be authored
just like HTML – in a simple text editor. Furthermore, XML files are merely ASCII files.
This means not only is it human readable, but it has a very small footprint. This
makes it ideal to be sent back and forth between applications. XML is ideal for large
and complex documents because the data is structured. You can place requirements
on tags, integrate data from multiple sources and show or hide data depending on
user actions.

In the real world companies have been saving millions of dollars by using XML. Dell
created custom ordering pages for some 27,000 B2B customers and used XML to
update each customer's internal procurement system as well as Dell's order system
each time the customer made a purchase. That system eliminates the need for the
customer's workers to enter the order information by hand on their own systems after
they ordered at Dell. Dell estimates that some of its largest accounts will see savings
of as much as $4 million annually.

Cisco uses an XML-based system for its product ordering (which is build-to-order)
which allows order information to be communicated directly to its own manufacturing

4
plants and its entire supply chain of distributors and other assembly partners. With
their system in place, this process takes a matter of minutes, cutting product lead
time from an average of four to six weeks to two to three weeks. Cisco claims to save
an estimated $175 million annually from this project.

SQL SERVER: SQL Server is a client/server-based relational database management

system that runs on Windows 2000 Professional, Server, and Advanced Server;
Windows NT 4; Windows 9x/Millennium; or Windows CE. It’s also included in
Microsoft’s BackOffice suite. Client/server can be defined as an application that is split
into at least two parts: One part runs on a server, and the other part runs on client
computers. or workstations. The server side of the application provides security, fault
tolerance, performance, concurrency, and reliable backups. The client side provides
the user interface and may contain such items as empty reports, queries, and forms.

The combination of the above technologies will be required to make this solution a
reality. Based on the knowledge gathered during the initial process of planning the
deployment of this solution, we are confident that the client MICHEAL
RESTUARANT&LODGE will be pleased with the ease of use and functionality of the
end product.
