So grab a coldy, sit back and put your feet up and enjoy a jam packed February News Letter. March Rally At this time our March Rally will be on Saturday the 8th. WERRIBEE CENTRAL EQUESTRIAN CLUB UNIFORMS

From such humble beginnings came, in my personal opinion, one of the most beautiful HRCAV Club Logos in the Association today. I vividly remember sitting at a committee meeting in the middle of last year. The discussion was updating our out of date, and lets be honest, now daggy logo. We discussed colours wouldnt we look spiffy in pink and purple. But alas we couldnt change our colours under HRCAV Rules. So since we couldnt find a soft copy of our logo anywhere, we decided to change the logo instead. All credit for our new logo has to go to our two Stephs. From Step Os initial sketches on bits of paper to Steph W casting her magic multi-media talents to create the final version, these two women have created something beautiful and timeless that will be a credit to the club for years to come. All the while in the back ground, our Uniform Co-Ordinator Kristy Irons was working her fingers to the bone trying to source a supplier for our uniforms. As it turns out, Hunter Green and Gold are very difficult colours to source. Kristy also wanted garments that would breath in summer, keep us warm in winter, hide all the lumps of bumps of age and gravity and not cost members an arm and a leg. Zoe will have stock available at the February rally for people to try on so they can confirm their sizes before ordering. Please note, you can continue to wear the current WCEC Uniform. Stephanie Orpik has put a brilliant Uniform page together including how to order and what uniform should be worn for what discipline i.e. Dressage / Showjumping etc.

2014 HRCAV BARASTOC RING SAVE THE DATE

2013 Jaime Stroud Memorial Trophy

Werribee Central Equestrian Club will once again be hosting the HRCAV Show Ring at the Barastoc Horse of the Year Show on Sunday 16th February at Werribee Park. This is our one fund raiser for the year, and the money we raise goes towards subsiding rally lessons and lunch for the next twelve months. Its the one time a year the club asks for members to volunteer a couple of hours of their time. Please keep this day free if youre not competing. Even if you can just spare an hour it would be most appreciated. WCEC Its In Your Hands. On the following page you will find the details of what we need in regards to volunteers

Our own Steph Orpik and Blackie Winner of the Level 3 Highpoint 2013 Barastoc

Unlike previous years we have not been provided any entry passes by the Barastoc committee

Volunteer Positions: Ring Stewards x 4 (this can be done in shifts even if you are only available for an hour or two) Judges Stewards x 4 (this can be done in shifts even if you are only available for an hour or two) Runners / Raffle Ticket Sellers to bring the score sheets from the rings if you want to exhaust your kids lend them to us for the day. Zoe, Lisa and I will be manning the Secretaries Tent for the Day. The club will be providing drinks and light snacks throughout the day. Remember even if you can only spare an hour or two during the day it would be most appreciated. We cant Barastoc without the help of our members. Please e-mail myself, Zoe or Jen with your availability so we can start to get a time table together. Just a reminder that the majority of the committee will be there from sparrows fart to the time the sun goes down. And if youve read this far you get a Fredo Frog at the March Rally.

2014 TTT EVENTS You only have two weeks to get your entry to me
As your friendly neighbourhood but at times grumpy TTT Co-Ordinator, I will once again be keeping everyone up to date on the all the TTT Events this year. We had great representation at all the TTT Events except TTT showing. When I sent out the request for entry e-mail I received five emails from people telling me they didnt want to go 0.o So lets get out there again in 2014 and fly the WCEC Flag.

This first cab off the rank is TTT Combined Training at Bulla. Unfortunately I only have two entries so far. I would really like to at least make up a team. Other events so are are: TTT Horse Trials 15th and 16th May Yarrambat TTT Showjumping - TBA TTT Navigation 19th October Willowmarvin (same place as last year) TTT Dressage 14th 16th November NEC (pending approval) TTT Showing - TBA

INDIVIDUAL DRESSAGE CHAMPIONSHIPS 2nd August 2014

While this next event isnt a TTT Event, the HRCAV will be holding the Inaugural Individual Dressage Championships on the 2nd of August this year at Werribee Park. Unlike TTT where the qualifications include being level assessed in the 12 months prior, you will need to qualify by points to be eligible to enter the Individual Championships. Below I have listed the qualifying requirements. 58. QUALIFYING REQUIREMENTS. 58.1. The qualifying requirements for the relevant discipline must be satisfied in the 12 month period prior to the close of entries for the Championships (ie: Qualifying Period). All entries must be accompanied by a copy of the combinations performance card showing proof of qualifying. In Dressage only, entrants are also required to provide copies of tests as per rule 59.1

58.2. Should combinations achieve further qualifying results between submission of entry and close of entries, the onus is on the entrant to notify the organiser prior to close of entries. 58.3. Should a combination which has been included in the draw advance to a higher level in the weeks following close of entries, they shall be eligible to be included in the draw at the new level, provided proof of qualifying at the new level can be satisfied. Inclusion in the draw at the new level is subject to positioning according to the qualifying requirements and available space in the draw. . 58.3. Should a combination which has been included in the draw advance to a higher level in the weeks following close of entries, they shall be eligible to be included in the draw at the new level, provided proof of qualifying at the new level can be satisfied. Inclusion in the draw at the new level is subject to positioning according to the qualifying requirements and available space in the draw 60. QUALIFYING CRITERIA 60.1. JANUARY RALLY REPORT

Please feel free to drop me photos if youre out and about at our rallies. As such I have no photos for January. And for the second month in a row the weather Gods were smiling on us. Those of us who had showjumping and cross country lessons were so excited to have Chris Mann back again. We met Chris back in 2012 during a very wet rally in May. Thankfully there was a very obliging groundsman on duty who told us if Indoor 1 was open we could use it; otherwise we would have to cancel. Needless to say those of us who did showjumping and cross country indoors had an absolute ball. So to say we were a tad excited was an understatement. I can tell you after the lesson those of us in the L4/3 had, I could barely walk for two days afterwards. He also highlighted the importance of being riding fit. The L3/2 guys were put through their paces with a complex course of tight turns, poles set up over barrels and again the importance of riding fitness. The L5s I think had the best time of their lives with two members Hels and Kristy cantering over jumps for the very first time. Those that took part in the cross country lesson told me they had an absolute ball. For dressage we welcomed back Renee Pedretti put everyone through their paces in the dressage arenas.

FEBRUARY RALLY REPORT Thankyou to Lisia Sturm for the February Rally Report
Summer had well and truly kicked in for our second rally of 2014, with a temperature forecast of 39 degrees! A majority vote saw our lessons shifted to the morning only rather than cancel entirely, but the 7.30am start proved to be too early for a few who like their Sunday sleep ins. Still, we managed a full cross country lesson and 3 dressage lessons, with showjumping cancelled due to the weather. Our instructor was the wonderful Jonna McLean, who took us back to the very basics that often get a little neglected in our enthusiasm. A very foggy morning started with cross country where we worked on getting good brakes, keeping the horses calm and relaxed, and being able to maintain the same rhythm and pace without having to micromanage the horses and hang off their mouths for control. Dressage followed and was all about maintaining the forward, with correct flexion and bend, increasing responsiveness to the legs and whip, and learning how to control the front and hind ends of the horse separately. Thanks to Jonna's infinite experience retraining horses, dealing with specific problems and crystal clear explanations we all left feeling a little wiser, armed with new knowledge, tricks and techniques.

Awesome x country lesson today! Managed some level 3 jumps (excuse the icky upper body, working on that), good horsey! ( Lisia)

JANE GRIFFIN MEMORIAL AWARD Sponsored John and Dee Griffin

This award was created in the memory of Jane Griffin who was a regular Showjumping instructor at our club rallies. Those of us who were fortunate enough to have lessons with her fondly remember her very assertive and loud teaching style, the joy at achieving things we didnt think we could achieve and every lesson started with Janes three rules of showjumping

Jump the Jump Dont Fall Off Look Good Doing it

Unfortunately Jane lost her life in tragic circumstances in June 2009. This award will be decided by the showjumping instructor at each rally by nominating a member who they believe is worthy of the award, a person who listens, tries hard and improves throughout the lesson.

MICHELE DEPASQUALE DRESSAGE AWARD

Michele now spends her time between working full time, running a Market Garden in Werribee South and supporting her youngest son Anton in his bid to be the next Mark Webber. And young Anton is definitely on his way. We wish Anton and the DePasquale Family all the best on his journey to Austria in 2014 to continue his racing career. Michele founded WCEC back 2005 wanting to locate a club at the National Equestrian Center. Over the years Michele has dedicated so much of her time to the running of the club that it now takes four us to do what she used to do.

When Michele made the difficult decision to resign from the Committee in 2012 and take a hiatus from the club we as a Committee wanted a way to thank and honour Michele for the all the hard work she did for us. Everything from almost running Barastoc singlehandedly to being Treasurer, President and Secretary in her many roles. Like the Jane Griffin Award, the Dressage award will be decided by the dressage instructor at each rally by nominating a member who they believe is worthy of the award, as person who listens and improves throughout the lesson.
