Native American Art Buffalo Hide Symbols Grade: 2 Objectives: Students will use symbols to convey meaning in their

artwork. Students will explore how ancient peoples used materials/techni ues to create art. Students will create their own pigments !rom natural materials. So what did the boy paint on8 5hat did he use !or paints8

5e are going to be creating our own art on hides. =ides are actually the skins o! dead animals or leather. Since & don7t have that much leather( we are going to be making paper that looks like leather instead.

Birst crush the items up in small containers. %hen add a small amount o! egg. Cse these paints to add color to your symbols. #e!ore throwing out the paint( make a chart and label what items made what colors. 5ash the brushes and containers out well.
