Prior Knowledge: Students will have already had practice with different types of throwing and catching and

experience in playing games with rules.

Risk Assessment The risk of injury during this lesson is at a medium rate, from balls going astray and students running into each other causing injury. The following steps will need to be taken to help prevent any injury: Check the area in which the lesson will take place for any ha ards. !ix any potential ha ards. "ake sure instructions are explicit, and that children understand that during the warm up activity they are not to hit their peers with the ball above their knees. #alls are also to be soft so they will not cause injury. "ake explicit instructions in regards to how close they are supposed to be to each other during the catch ball game, to lower the risk of any potential injury. $uring the throwing and catching skills drill make sure that the students do not move to far apart, so that you can not see them or they are going to injure another student because the throwing distance is too far.

Content/Learning Experience Introduction: Today we are going to be developing our throwing and catching skills. Throwing and catching are important because/ *n our next lesson we will practice target skills. Target skills are important because/*n our final lesson we will then put these skills together to participate in a game of 0uidditch. $oes anyone know what 0uidditch is1 2wait for responses3. 4es, 0uidditch is the sport that is played at 5ogwarts. 6ur game will be slightly different because we cannot fly on broom sticks. #ut to be able to successfully play 0uidditch, we need to develop skills in throwing, catching and target skills. *n a game like 0uidditch it is also important to strategically position yourself around the pitch, and work as a team to get your 7uaffle inside the hoops. This is another skill that we will be working on. Today we will be/ Body: Warm up: !irstly it is important to warm up our body. 8e are going to play a game for our warm up, which is similar to dodge ball. 2.et the students into a line behind you and walk them around into a circle, then choose two people to stand in the middle with a soft ball3. The two students in the middle are going to throw the balls at the students in the circle. The ball must not hit another student above the knees. The students in the circle must run around in the circle clockwise, dodging the balls. The students in the circle must also try and catch the ball. *f they catch the ball then they go into the middle of the circle with another ball and try and hit the other children with the ball. *f a student in the circle gets hit with the ball then they are out of the game, and must collect any stray balls. 8hen there are no more students in the circle the game is over. 9lay the game. Throwing and catching skills: 6nce the arm up game is finished sit the students down and explain the next part of the lesson.

8e will now have a practice at throwing and catching from different distances. * am going to give you either a number one or two. * want the number ones to form a line and the number twos to form a line.2<umber them off3. * want each line to stand opposite each other going across the area. The person opposite you is now your partner. 4ou will each have one ball to pass to each other. *f you successfully catch the ball you can take one step back, if you miss you are to take one step forward. 8e will play for = minutes and the team that is throwing from the farthest distance will be the winners. 9lay the game. Putting skills into practice: Sit the students down in their two groups. $uring our warm up, you had to use different strategies to move around the court so you were not hit with a ball. 4ou were also able to demonstrate your catching skills whilst moving, as well as your throwing skills. 8e then paired off to refine our throwing and catching skills, at varying distances. <ow it is time we put these skills to use in a game of catch ball. 5as anyone played catch ball before1 6r have any idea what we might do in catch ball1 The lines you are in now will be your teams. There are two hula hoops at each end of the court. The winners from our last game are/.you will be the goal catchers for each team. The objective of the game is to pass the ball between your players and then pass it to your goal catcher to score a goal. There are a number of rules that * need to go through before we begin: 9layers must not move with the ball+ 9layers have = seconds to pass the ball+ <o contact of the player should be made during play+ - player needs to be a metre away from the player holding the ball+ - player may not mark another player using their arms > they should use their body only+ 8hen a ball is knocked out of play via the side lines a side,line pass is taken by the other team+ 8hen a ball is knocked out of play via the back lines a back,line pass is taken by the other team+ 8hen a defender knocks the ball out of play in the semi,circle the attacking team take a pass from the

back line outside the semi,circle+ The only players allowed inside the semi,circle are the 5oop,player and two defenders+ The attacking team players may not enter their attacking semi,circle+ *f the 5oop,player steps outside the hoop the other team take a back,line pass. -sk if there are any 7uestions, than proceed with the game. 9lay for/minutes and then get the students to come together and sit down in front of you. Conclusion: Today, we have worked hard at developing our throwing and catching skills through a number of activities.
