Myranda Michaud Teacher Observation Tripp Middle School February 24, 2014

On Monday, February 24, 2014, an informal review of Myranda Michaud was conducted at Tripp Middle School in Turner, Maine. The students entered the classroom and were instructed to complete their Anne Frank project which was due the following class. The class time was split in two allowing for the lunch break. The entire class time was devoted to students working on their project using their tablets. They were allowed to sit on the floor as long as they continued to focus on the required work. Myranda monitored the class, helped with students questions, and provided information or resources. She also brought the students to and from the lunch room during the course of the class. Once the students were done, they were allowed to read. Items for consideration as Myranda continues to work on developing her teaching skills: Although this was not a traditional lesson, it is evident that this is the penultimate class in a well-prepared and taught unit on Anne Frank and her diary. The students were ready for this class, knew what the expectations were and focused their energy on the required task. It is always a challenge to re-focus students of any age once theyve left the room for a lunch break. Myranda has developed an excellent environment and support system for the students to quickly return to their tasks once theyve come back to the classroom. This shows that Myranda has worked to instill into the students their responsibility in their learning without having to remind them constantly. Theyve developed a good learning and study habit. As with most classes, the final few minutes can be a time when students are preparing to leave the classroom. Its a challenge to keep them in their seats. Consider trying something like Final Thoughts or other ways to have them stay calm before they leave the room. From reading Myrandas unit plan, her lessons and seeing some of the results of the students work, it is clear that she is ready to teach her own classroom. She works diligently in preparing exciting and relevant lessons for the students, constantly researching and creating different ways to engage the students in achieving curriculum

goals and content standards. She creates a supportive and developmental learning environment in the class and it is obvious from the students rapport with her that they respect and like her as a teacher due to her mutual respect and care for her students.
