Overview
Plan Name WHS CSI Blueprint Plan Description DoDEA Mission: Educate, Engage, and Empower each student to succeed in a dynamic world. DoDEA Vision: To be among the world's leaders in education, enriching the lives of military-connected students and the communities in which they live. WHS Vision: Students will aquire the necessary learning, social and communication skills to be productive, ethical and healthy citizens in a global environment. WHS two SMART goals, objectives, strategies and activities. It should be noted that for goal 1: Reading and comprehension skills, the two objectives have the same activities. The activities are only listed once, however. Reading Goals Essence: Close the gender gap, and close the ethnicity gap By 2014, the average reading score of male students will be within five percentage points of female students as measured by TerraNova scores. By 2014, the average reading score of male students will be within four points of female students as measured by PSAT scores. By 2014, the percentage of male students reading at grade level, as determined by the SRI, will be within five percentage points of the female students who are reading at grade level. By 2014, the average reading score of Black students will be within five percentage points of all other ethnic groups as measured by TerraNova scores. By 2014, the average reading score of Black students will be within four points of all other ethnic groups as measured by PSAT scores. By 2014, the percentage of Black students reading at grade level, as determined by the SRI, will be within five percentage points of non-Black students who are reading at grade level. Critical Thinking Goals: By 2014, students will show a five-point increase in the percentage achieving moderate to high mastery on the TerraNova Problem-Solving-and-Reasoning Math OPIs. By 2014, students will show a five-point increase in the percentage of questions answered correctly in the following skillspecific PSAT sub scores areas: oReading: Reasoning-and-Inference oMath: Problem-Solving oMath: Reasoning oMath: Connections. Every year, seniors taking the local assessment (NAEP critical-thinking constructed-response questions) will demonstrate statistically significant improvement in problem solving skills.

Major Concepts/Content: Improve reading achievement for students not Direct reading at grade level through the use of a whole group instructional model Instruction with small group rotations: Whole Group Literacy Instruction with technology support providing models and Lexile leveled text passages for instruction Modeled or independent reading using leveled literature to model or practice good reading strategies Small Group instruction provides daily student-teacher interaction to build skills that facilitate the reading of increasingly complex materials. Strategy 3: Targeted Reading Seminars - Students at or below the 40th percentile on the TerraNova Reading test will be placed in select reading classes--either READ 180 or reading seminars. In READ 180 students will follow the curriculum. In reading seminars, students will spend the first 15 minutes silently reading, and the next 20 minutes applyling reading strategies and participating in discussion. Reading materials may be selected from the AVIDWeekly website. Reading strategies and discussion materials are included with each article on the site. Teachers will be asked to volunteer to host one of the Reading Seminars.
