Exhibition Weeks 1 and 2:

For the past two weeks weve been planning and preparing for Exhibition. Last week we all decided (and confirmed) the issues we would look into for the next few weeks (see below). This week we wrote our lines of inquiry and key questions which will help us with our research. We are also meeting with our mentors. Our mentor meetings are very helpful. They are a time to ask questions, get ideas and make sure were going in the right direction. Every Monday we set an action plan which also keeps us on track during the week. Our action plans are goals we want to try and accomplish. We share these with our mentors, Chelsea and our parents. We are finding research a bit tricky but think next week well find even more information. Well write again next week with another update! Written by P6 students

A note from Chelsea:

As some of you know, Ive been unwell for the past two weeks. While not exactly the smooth start to Exhibition we were intending, students are all on track and my energy will come around full-swing soon (we hope!). Students have been well supported while I was away as I sent in daily cover plans and Maree oversaw the class. Students also met with their mentors as planned. Weve spent the past day and a catching up and sorting out where theyre at and what they need. As for these next few weeks, you Create should expect to see more regular communication from me. I also want to take this assessment time to express again, that Exhibition is simply a portion of our current curriculum. We rubric + assess continue working on literacy and mathematics expectations throughout this period of M3 Science Fair Exhibition. I will send home concepts for our new math unit next week. Below are a few thoughts and suggestions as students continue to dive into this research phase of Exhibition: -This week lines of inquiry and key questions were written with the help of mentors and teachers. - Students will write Central ideas next week with me (if they havent already). - Students should be spending time outside of school researching their key questions. The focus is on becoming as informed as possible about their issues at this stage of the inquiry cycle. It is quite evident that some students are not doing any work outside of school and therefore are not utilizing in-class work time. - Notes should be taken in their own words in a format that they can revisit later in the process. -Please encourage your son/daughter to actively fill in their bibliography. -Help your child consider what other sources could be accessed (interviews, surveys, videos).
My mentor meeting went really well. She gave me another website to look for information. I even set up an interview which really helped me know more about fair trade. - Bram

Next week
- Writing central ideas
- Researching (using a key question to guide research)

- Summarizing information found (note taking + recording) - Recording sources in a bibliography -Ensuring a variety of sources are being used -Keeping research organized - Asking the right questions when interviewing + other interviewing tips.
