Class Activities
- To begin the lesson, I will take out the sequencing cards for the students. These cards have
different pictures on them involving different parts of the story. I will mix the order of the cards
up and place them on the table. The students will have to work together (which is one of the
important parts of our lesson) to place them in the correct order. Once they are in the correct
order, each student will have their own card and will discuss that part of the story. We will talk
about the authors purpose, comparing and contrasting between the animals, as well as making
inferences about moments in the story by the pictures.
- p. 340-343 The Lion and the Mouse reading passage we will point to the title and
discuss the author and illustrator. We will talk about the genre (folk tale/fable) and read through
those. The students will read through the story and I will ask questions along the way. How do
you think the lion felt? What about the mouse when the lion said he was too small? How do
you think the animals felt? We will talk about the similarities and differences between The
Lion and the Mouse and One Good Turn Deserves Another students will complete the
Venn Diagram with a partner. If time permits, EEKK read the story with a partner
Modifications
- SPED students will have help with
writing in the Venn Diagram if they are
struggling
- one-on-one assistance if needed
