QUESTION 1 A state has to fulfill certain conditions before it is recognised as a state. Outline these conditions necessary to achieve recognition and give examples of countries that do not fulfill these conditions and yet have gained recognition as a state. (20 marks)
QUESTION 2 One of the objectives of the United Nations is to maintain international peace and security. However, due to several flaws and weaknesses within the United Nations, this objective has not been achieved. With reference to the above statement, outline the reasons for the failure of the United Nations to achieve this objective. (20 marks)
QUESTION 3 According to the World Health Organisation, the cost of health care is escalating. Discuss the reasons for this increase and the necessary steps to ensure that medical care and treatment shall be made readily available to all. (20 marks)
QUESTION 4 Explain what you understand by the term 'global warming'. State the causes arid effects of global warming on the environment. (20 marks)
QUESTION 5 The problem of the influx of refugees is turning into a global problem. Explain the definition and legal status of refugees, their rights under international law and how the United Nations seek to address this problem. (20 marks)
