Proposal For: THE LOCKS Programme Working Title: Production Company Name:

Address Line 1 Address Line 2 Address Line 3

Full outline of Programme Idea The Locks- Melodrama- Teenagers- Young Adults Set in the town of Manchester (Locks) Based around a group of teens who live in the same area and know each other relatively well. Air time- 9Pm on BBC3. Stereotypical youthful characters- Like to drink, go out, bothered about relationships, secrets and gossip. Melodrama due to the extent of the story lines and also the prospect of a hit and run scene. Several storied that may interlink with each other to create other story lines and to also solve some story lines. Characters are all from the Manchester area so dont have any particular accents. Storylines- New couple, cheating and getting caught, daughter unable to leave home, pregnancy without eligible man, hit and run, drunk depression. There are 8 characters 4 boys and 4 girls this was because it 8 is a small suitable number to start off with in a new soap so audiences can get to know them more intimately. I would want to film around Manchester, for example the city centre, outside clubs, by the locks.

Character names, profiles and relationships and storylines. Girl A- Is in a relationship with Boy A, shes good looking but is quite fake, she doesnt have respect for herself. She is using Boy A for his money and cheating with him with Boy B. She is new to the city. Boy A- Is in a relationship with Girl A, rich. He isnt very good with new people his girlfriend. He cant see that she is finds a friend in Girl B. He is also new is quite ugly but is and only really knows cheating on him, to the city.

Girl B- Is a single girl. Shes very attractive but doesnt put herself out there. She has plenty of respect for herself and is popular within the city. She notices Girl A using Boy B and also sees her cheating on him. She confronts Boy A and builds a strong relationship with him. She used to live with her Mum and her Sister but moved out to be independent. Boy B- Hes a player who basically goes for any girl available. He kisses Girl A and they carry on swapping cheeky texts with one another without anyone knowing until Girl B catches them. He has a reputation around town and was arrested at a young age for drunken disorderly. Girl C- Is in a relationship with Boy C and have been since they were young. They have recently just moved in together and are very happy except she discovers she is pregnant. She confides in her best friend Girl D. Boy C- Is in a relationship with Girl C. He doesnt know his girlfriend is pregnant but when he finally finds out he goes on a downward spiral of depression because he doesnt think hes able to have children as well as not feeling up to the job of being a parent. Girl D- Is best friends with Girl C, she currently lives with her mum but is desperate to move out but doesnt want to see her mum live on her own. Every time she builds the courage to tell her mum shes moving out her Mum blackmails her to stay making her feel guilty. Her older sister is Girl B. Boy D- Is Boy Cs best mate. They do everything together. Boy D is involved in a drunk hit and run by Boy C and is left hospitalised. The boys have been friends near enough since birth due to their parents being close friends too. Hes a happy guy working as a bar promoter.

Why the programme idea will work (target audience) The programme will work as it is based in a popular city and will appeal to a younger audience due to the age of characters in it. Also the range of story lines. As the target audience is young adults/ teens it will be suitable down to language and areas. Also it will send across messages to the audience often acting as a warning.

Where/When will it be broadcast and why BBC3 Tuesdays and Thursdays and 9pm. This suits BBC 3s typical audience as they aim the majority of their programmes at younger adults and teenagers. Also the topics of their programmes are similar to The Locks 10pm is a good time as thats past watershed so their wont be to many younger children tuning in to it. Also 10 is a suitable time as younger adults will be likely to be free from that time onwards to sit and watch it. Tuesday and Thursday are good weekdays as they arent stereotypical popular days like a Friday is. Also I find Tuesday and Thursday to be days when there isnt much on TV anymore. There wont be an omnibus as there are only two episodes a week.

Who will work on the programme and their job roles Rhea- Director Nicole-Camera Reece- Producer and Audio.

Estimated cost give justification A typical soap coasts around 5000 an episode; this is due to actors, set, props, and crew, sometimes other factors come in to count using special effects etc.

Final sign off from Executive Producer
