TEACHING EXPERIENCE Wasatch Elementary School, Salt Lake School District August 2013- April 2014 Student taught 23 diverse second grade students at a Beverly Taylor Sorenson Fine Arts elementary school. Incorporated service learning to motivate children and teach them about the school staff, thank them for their efforts, and be responsible citizens. Students learned the value of hard work, how to write a letter, team work, and life skills. Planned and taught a six week unit on Law and the Constitution integrating writing, reading, collaboration, social studies, sign language, art, handwriting, and exploration. Received SMART board training and implemented it to provide children with visual aids, interactive math materials, step by step writing guidance, Storytown, charts and graphs, and to promote engagement. Used interim and formative assessments, unit exams, observations, projects, student work, tickets out the door, and daily self-starts to assess and guide instruction. Integrated American Sign Language during spring semester to teach all subjects, engage the students, and create a supportive classroom community that works as a team. Created a six week unit on character education and incorporated issues they were facing in their own lives (honesty, loyalty, bullying, compassion, team work, and building one another up.) Newcastle Preschool Draper, Utah 2011-2013 Head teacher of two pre-kindergarten classes each year, consisting of twelve students each. Documented childrens knowledge of shapes, alphabet, writing, cutting, and numbers 1-20 with formal assessments. Established student directed learning centers including guided reading, literacy activities, dramatic and cooperative play, numbers, shapes, and exploration of new materials. Sent home monthly newsletters, held parent teacher conferences, holiday performances, and Daddy-Day; provided opportunities for parent volunteers, and sent home weekly notes to maintain a positive parent- teacher relationship. Liberty Elementary Murray, Utah January- April 2013 Tutored fifth grade boy using Higher Steps. Tutored twice a week for 16 weeks and advanced one whole grade level and was on reading level with his peers when finished. St. Annes Catholic School Salt Lake City, Utah September- December 2012 Tutored third grade ESL student using Next Steps. Learning disability discovered through the process. Sought to give her more assistance and accountability in resource. University Early Childhood Education Program Salt Lake City, Utah June- July 2012 Tutored a struggling reader transitioning from kindergarten to first grade. Taught letter sounds, concept of word, writing, and forming sentences. Went from reading level 1 to 6 in two months. COMMUNITY OUTREACH EXPERIENCE 2009- Present Tutored children in state custody transitioning to foster care, Somali Refugee students, ESL students, significantly struggling readers, children with dyslexia, and ADD. Led childrens activities and coordinated volunteers for one -week trip to Tijuana Mexico orphanage for four summers. Taught American Sign Language to various childrens groups for communication badges, cultural knowledge, and performances in the community.
