Hampstead

Hill Academy

Creating life long learners

and active, engaged
community members.

A quick snapshot
Hampstead Hill A cademy (HHA) is a PreK-8 facility that is part of the Baltimore City Public School system. As
a tuition -free public charter school it serves 690 students and is a diverse setting both socio-economically and
ethnically. As a public charter school it serves the neighborhood students first, and for remaining spots there is a
lottery in place. It is nestled right in the heart of Canton, and is conveniently across the street from Patterson Park.

Not only is there an abundance of resources and after school activities, but learning is a priority. Hampstead
Hill reports 30 of their 46 eighth graders got admitted in to their first choice high school. With the recently created
students outcome committee, the emphasis continues to be placed on creating an eighth grade student that is ready
for success in any of the competitive high schools they attend.

One unique feature of Hampstead Hill

Academy is its restorative practices.
Restorative practices are a type of conflict
resolution strategy that builds community
within a school and helps to establish a
nurturing environment that enables
success. Students are taught to address
their problems in an appropriate manner,
and many conflicts are solved through the
use of restorative circles.

Community building circles are

another part of restorative practices.
Three times a week, students and faculty
*Almost 70 instruments
included in school band come together to share experiences and
build relationships by sharing life
offered to elementary
and middle school
experiences. Circle topics and lengths
vary depending on the question but all are

welcomed to come in and watch this

practice at work!

Community Outreach

Fostering community is another main
part of Hampstead Hill academy. The
administration and staff are always
looking for ways to include the
community. Currently four community
dinners are hosted throughout the year.
The meals are cooked by a collaboration
of student chefs and master chefs.
Additionally, the community is involved
in Hampstead Hill nights. Three
Thursdays in May HHA hosts a night of
games, live music, food, and fun.
Students, families, faculty members, and
community members come out to enjoy
the night. Finally, community members
are invited to chat with Matt, a monthly
meeting with the principal.
