The ICT Integration Project is underpinned by the established learning theories of social constructivism, cognitive thinking and multiple

intelligences. The activities selected in this project rely on the students working in pairs to think about their topic, how to best research this topic, what to research and how best to present this information. This is all part of social constructivism where students need to have experiences, reflect on these experiences and then share collaboratively. The project consists of a series of four lesson plans which the students can access on Weebly. The first lesson is for them to create a SpiderScribe mind-map displaying what they already know about their selected country. The second lesson is for them to research more about this country and the specific details that need to be included. They then need to add this information they have collected to their mind-maps and finally present this information to the whole class in an oral presentation. Each lesson builds on the next and requires them to use and reflect on their prior knowledge while enhancing this with new knowledge they will have gained due to completing each task. This is cognitive theory where the mind is likened to a computer: prior knowledge goes in this is reflected on and enhanced by new experiences the experiences and knowledge are expressed in creative ways. In addition to social constructivism and cognitive theory, this project caters for a wide range of multiple intelligences. The students have been given freedom in what they are researching (though some specific details are required i.e. the countrys flag) and how this will then be presented. A student who is more linguistic will enjoy reading encyclopaedia entries and then summarising this information in written forms. They are also catered for in the final lesson where each student needs to give an oral presentation. For those students who are more logicalmathematical, they have the choice of drawing their own maps, graphs tables etc. and putting

more emphasis on their countrys economics, population and other logical-mathematical areas. For those students who respond better when dealing with visual-spatial concepts they have the choice to embed visual images/graphics into how they present their research. The first lesson using SpiderScribe is a visual representation of information itself. Likewise, those who need music/rhythm can research suitable songs, tunes, poems etc. using YouTube, I-tunes to add to their presentations, part of their research might be to find their countrys national anthem or any other special songs/poems. Interpersonal skills are the basis of this whole project. The students must associate with each other from choosing the country they want to research, to what they decide to research to the way they present this research and then how they communicate all of this in their oral presentations in front of the whole class.
