Descriptive Statistics

Excel 2007: The Data Analysis add-in should appear at right-end of Data menu as Data Analysis. If not then 1. 2. 3. 4. Click the Microsoft Office Button , and then click Excel Options. Click Add-Ins, and then in the Manage box, select Excel Add-ins. Click Go. In the Add-Ins available box, select the Analysis ToolPak check box, and then click OK. Tip If Analysis ToolPak is not listed in the Add-Ins available box, click Browse to locate it. If you get prompted that the Analysis ToolPak is not currently installed on your computer, click Yes to install it. 5. After you load the Analysis ToolPak, the Data Analysis command is available in the Analysis group on the Data tab. Now suppose you want to do data analysis: On an excel sheet enter the data. Lets say you consider problem 2. Enter data in cells A1:A16 Go to Data Analysis (under Data tab) Select Descriptive Statistics and click OK For the Input Range (go first with the cursor in the input range window) select your data (A1:A16) Go to output options: You can have the results on the same sheet, in that case click Output Range click first in the Output Range window and next select some blank cells on your sheet where you want the results to go Click Summary Statistics Click OK You should get an output similar as format to what is shown in Problem1; Not all the required descriptives are shown, some of them you have to compute on your own; Excel has a function Quartiles but it doesnt give the correct value; If the set is multimode (has more than one mode), excel will display only the first mode value, you should mention all mode values; the z-scores do not show up on the descriptives table but you can use excel by entering the function and have them done separately;

If you see a message that tells you the Analysis Toolpak is not currently installed on your computer, click Yes to install it. 4. Click Tools on the menu bar.
