College Reach Out Program (CROP) The College Reach Out Program is designed to guide students toward high school graduation and to go on to college. The minds of 60 students, ages 12-18 were stimulated with intensive instruction in Math, English, Sciences, and Computer literacy. Teachers structured the learning around district approved FCAT instruction. Students also attended cultural, recreational, and educational field trips. Fun was in the mix as students were also treated to an adventure at Wet and Wild! This Summer Academic Enrichment program was held from June 11-July 19.

Renovated PSCI 124C

Student Services News

The Student Services offices for Advising, Counseling, Disabilities, Financial Aid, Student Activities, Student Information, and WINGS have moved out of the Science building (PSCI 106, 108, 118) back to the renovated Student Services building (PTSU). The Admissions/Records/Registration office currently operating in PTEC 121 will relocate to the renovated PSTU building during the early part of the Fall 2007 semester. The final piece of the Student Services moves will involve setting up a combination Testing/Orientation Center and Career Center in the space vacated by A/R/R (PTEC 121) as soon as possible. Having difficulties paying for your college tuition--or know someone who is? Not eligble for Financial Aid? Hillsborough Community Colleges Tuition Installment Plan (TIPS) may be the answer. TIPS is available to all HCC students and allows students to pay their tuition in monthly installments. For more information, go to http://www. hccfl.edu/tips/.

Sprinklerfitting Apprenticeship Programs

Until now, all four of our campus apprenticeship programs-plumbing, pipefitting, heating-ventilation-air conditioning, and sprinklerfitting-have operated off-campus. Beginning this fall, the sprinklerfitting program and its 24 students will move onto the Plant City Campus. They will share space with the Advanced Water Treatment program in the Trinkle Building. Their classroom training sessions will be held two per week, with Friday evening for any extended hours needed. Advanced Water Treatment will use the lab the other two evenings per week and Saturday. Welcome, Sprinklerfitters! August 2 2007

Tampa Bay Workforce Alliance

Notetakers Needed!

Every semester, the Office of Services for Students with Disabilites recruits students to be notetakers in class. If you are interested in helping a fellow student realize their educational goals, contact Mr. Tim McArter at 813-757-2209 or stop by his office-PSTU 1113. Thank you.

Sixty-five 9-12 grade students from Plant City, Durant, and Armwood High Schools participated in the Tampa Bay Workforce Alliance/HCC-Plant City summer program from June 6-August 3rd. Students learned about college readiness from Terri Scott, Program Manager-Academic Outreach, and TBWA/Junior Achievement taught Microsoft programs, leadership, volunteerism, and reading/math skills. The program will continue throughout the year in order to help build a pathway to college. Some will be selected and be offered scholarship contracts, and those with contracts who complete the program, graduate from High School, and enter into an AS/AAS or PSAV program at the Plant City campus will be eligible to receive a $2000.00 scholarship. Newly renovated Student Services

The Trinkle Building recently hosted two important civic events. On August 4th, HCC joined with South Florida Baptist Hospital to sponsor backto-school physicals for students. Over 100 children were given physicals and/or administered the necessary shots to start the school year. On August 9th, the Trinkle Building was the venue of the County Commissioners Town Hall Meeting, in which members of the community were invited to come and talk directly with Hillsbourough County Commissioners about their concerns for the county. The event was well received with over 500 present.
