Figure 1 : installation sketch Datas: - the secondary fluid is the Dowtherm J with the following characteristics: Cp = 1,615 kJ/kg.K, = 921,3 kg/m3 et = 496,9.10-5 Pa.s EF is the evaporator of a refrigeration equipment allowing to cool down the Dowtherm from 55C to -60C. It has to be noticed that TE = TA = TC = -60C and TD = TB = TF = -55C E1 and E2 are the users heat exchangers whuch capacity are equal to QE1 = 7 kW et QE2 = 10 kW the ducts EA, AC, CD, DB, BF and FE are round of 5 cm diameter. The absolute roughness is = 0,045 mm. The duct AB is round as well with a diameter of 4 cm and the same absolute roughness. The C, D, F and E elbows are of type 3-1 (ASHRAE) with r/D = 1 and an angle of 90 so that = 0.22 The junction in A is of type 5-23 (ASHRAE) with an angle of 90 The junction in B is a type 5-3 (ASHRAE) convergnet with an angle of 90 The pressure drop of AB duct in addition to that of E1 is equal to 0,14 bar The pressure drop of CD duct in addition to that of E2 is equal to 0,1 bar 1. Calculate the mass flowrate of branch AB (heat exchanger E1) and that of branch ACDB (heat exchanger E2). From these results deduce the mass flo rate in the pump, the volumetric flow rate and the velocities. Calculate the pressure drop along BD duct. The Colebrook correlation has to be used. Calculate the pressure drops due to the fittings in A and B From results of question 2 and 3, determine the total pressure drop along AB and ACDB. Will the ductwork work as expected?
