Honors Algebra 2 Graph Art Project

Your task is to create an awesome picture using the different functions weve talked about so far this year (linear, absolute value, parabola). Your project must include the following: 1. At least 12 different functions. (You may include vertical lines, but remember these are not functions.) 2. At least 2 absolute value functions (equation written in the form: y = a|x h| + k). 3. At least 2 quadratic functions (equations written in the form: y = a(x h)2 + k). 4. At least 2 linear equations (equations written in slope-intercept form: y = mx + b). 5. No more than 30 equations. 6. An interesting and colorful graph. 7. An accurate, completed table listing each function and its domain/range. Instructions for Art Creation: You will create your graph art using the online graphing calculator program Desmos (https://www.desmos.com/). This calculator is very intuitive to learn to use, but there is a users guide here: http://s3.amazonaws.com/desmos/Desmos_User_Guide.pdf First, either create a Desmos account (free) or use a Google Account that you already own to sign in (recommended route since you can then save your graph to your Google Drive). To graph an equation, type the equation into the next line on the left (ie/ y= 3x+1). To restrict the domain, type your restricted domain in set notation after the function (ie/ y=3x + 1 {-2 < x < 4}). Click along your graph in order to identify specific points on the function (to help you identify and choose your domain and range). It may be helpful to fill in the function table as you create your art instead of waiting until the end. Click on the Gear that says Edit List above your functions in order to change the color or line style of each equation. Make sure you SAVE YOUR GRAPH since this project will span a couple of days. Project Submission: To submit your graph art, 1. Click on Share and then Image in the top right. 2. Copy the link that says Use for blogs, etc and make a post to the class Padlet so we can all view each others work. a. Go to http://padlet.com/wall/j49umywhl2 b. Make a post including your first and last name (all honors students will post here) and the url link to your graph image (using the paperclip link at the bottom of your post). 3. From Share and Image, download the image of your graph art and make it more colorful. You can either a. Print the graph art and color with art supplies b. Put the image in oneNote and use the pens to color it (highlighters will no print in color correctly). 4. Submit a printed colorful version of your graph art for the classroom walls. 5. Submit a printed copy of your function table.
