What does that symbol mean? Etc. o Respond to another students comment: you may agree and add to their comment, or disagree and explain why. o Answer a question or add outside information you think is relevant. AD ANALYSIS PART II. Paragraph Writing You will now choose one ad to analyze more deeply (the one you originally picked or one your classmate providedthere is a PowerPoint on Edmodo with all of the ads included). I suggest photographing the gallery walk paper so you can refer to your classmates ideas about the ad as you decide how to analyze it. STEP ONE: In your paragraph, you are going to make one of the following arguments (Circle your choice): This ad Is patriarchal Is sexist towards women Demonstrates misogyny towards women Stereotypes women Objectifies women

STEP TWO: Prewriting Choose a question from the Feminist Perspective Chart related to the topic you chose in STEP ONE and answer it here: Question #___: Answer:

STEP THREE: Describe in specific detail two things that you see in the ad that support your answer to the question in step two: EVIDENCE #1:

EVIDENCE #2:

You must get approval on Steps 1, 2, and 3 before beginning your paragraph! STEP 4: Write a paragraph about your ad using the following template: Topic Sentence. Sentence starter [EVIDENCE #1] shows/reveals/suggests that this image [argument from topic sentence] BECAUSE Warrant [2+ sentences] This warrant must answer one of the questions from the chart! Include a key word or synonym from the topic sentence. Furthermore/in addition/also/moreover, sentence starter [EVIDENCE #2] shows/reveals/suggests that this image [argument from topic sentence] BECAUSE Warrant [2+ sentences] This warrant must answer one of the questions from the chart, too! Also include a key word or synonym from the topic sentence. EXAMPLE: This image portrays a patriarchal society. The fact that the female doll is placed lower than the male doll on the scale shows that this image represents a male-dominated hierarchy because it visually places the man in a position of greater power than the female [Question #1]. Since they are both wearing business attire and the woman holds a briefcase, their position on the scale suggests that the man has a higher position in the workforce, and thus in society, than the woman. Furthermore, the female dolls timid posture, in contrast to the male dolls confident stance, reveals a culture of maledominance because the man is shown as comfortable in his position of power. Alternately, the woman seems hunched over clutching her bag, with her legs and feet at an angle rather than firmly planted as the mans are, which is consistent with her lower position of power and privilege in the patriarchy.
