SUPERVISOR ENGR. HARIS MOHSIN [haris.mohsin@nu.edu.pk] Project Objective: To develop an artificial robotic human hand that will imitate the actions as a natural human hand. Practical Application: Myoelectric prosthetic hand is the only alternative for the amputees who have lost their natural hand; it helps amputees to revert back to their normal life. Technologies Used: Electromyography (EMG), PID Algorithm, Arduino, PROCESSING-2, MATLAB. Abstract: Myoelectric Prosthetic hand is an EMG signal based robotic device. It detects electric potential generated through human brain by movement of the muscle cells. The signal is further filtered and converted into usable data information. The hand is designed in such a way that it imitates the actions like a real human hand. Current prosthetic hands have limited functionality and are cost prohibitive. A design of a cost effective myoelectric prosthetic hand is created and the design features five individually actuated fingers in addition to movable wrist design, which is unseen in commercial products. The hand is completely battery operated, controlled through a microcontroller. Multiple options for signal input and control algorithms are implemented for signal acquisition from muscles through brain. This prototype will serve as a platform for future prosthesis development efforts.
