Printing techniques

Just a small PowerPoint brief

Screen print
Screen printing is a printing technique that uses a woven mesh to support an inkblocking stencil to receive a desired image. A filled blade is moved across the screen stencil, forcing or pumping ink into the mesh openings for transfer by capillary action during the squeegee stroke. The screen is made of a piece of mesh stretched over a frame, a stencil is formed by blocking off parts of the screen in the negative image of the design to be printed then the spaces are where the ink will appear on the substrate.

Stencil Printmaking
Stencil printmaking consists of a template image that is sprayed over to create an image on a piece of paper. People normally create their own template, by finding and creating a template and then cutting them out to form holes within the template so the paint comes through onto the piece of paper it gets sprayed on, then creates an image.

Linocut
Linocut is a design cut in relief on linoleum mounted on a wooden block. The artist then uses a sharp instrument to cut away the linoleum. Picasso first introduced reduction linocut in 1959. It is the method by which a multicolor print is pulled from a single block. The linoleum is inked up with the lightest color and the first printing is made. Its a printmaking technique which a sheet of linoleum is used for the relief surface. It was invented by Carl Eugen Keel and was the emergence of the technique in America. The processing of print making is similar to woodcut. Linocuts can yield a greater variety of effects than woodcuts can.

Mono Printing
Monoprint is a single impression of an image made from a reprint able block. It is a form of printing that can only be done once which makes images or lines, unlike most printing where there are multiple originals. Mono printing looks very artistic and consists of more articular images rather than other printing techniques and some may say that it allows general freedom in printing.

Laser Printing
Laser printing is a type of printer that utilizes a laser beam to produce an image on a drum. The light of the laser alters the electrical charge on the drum wherever it hits. Laser printers are very popular and a lot of people have them as a personal computer printer at home or business. It was introduced in 1975 which was invented by the IBM.

Digital Photocopying
Digital photocopiers are relatively new types of photocopying machines which run on advanced digital technology. The digital photocopier is one of the most useful and cost effective types of photocopiers currently available in the UK and features a lot of functions. It can be commonly found in businesses, offices and personal use in homes as it is a highly effective and useful piece of technology in todays world.
