Data Analysis Based on my data, the class on average had a 16% learning gain after my unit. Although multiple students did well on the pre-test, many did better on the post-test, which tells me they did learn something from my unit. Although it was a review for some, others needed this review based on their pre-test scores. However, there were 3 students that did worse on their post-test, and 2 students who got the exact same score on their pre and post-test. Although these students did worse on the post-test, I believe this was because they did not have as much time to work on the post-test as they did on the pre-test. Based on my informal assessments throughout the unit, I do believe these children understood the material; they just did not have adequate time to work on the post-test. I had multiple students make significant learning gains, such as student 20 gaining 51%, and two students gaining 42%. Because of this, and the fact that 32% of my students

got a 100% on the post-test, I believe I made an impact on learning. Based on the post-test scores, and the informal assessments made throughout the unit, students did learn the intermediate directions, and got a good review of the cardinal directions. Although the main focus of the unit was directions, the first lesson used the parts of a map, which I made sure to review throughout the unit. This was not on the pre/post test, but was important to the longer unit on maps that I did not even teach. Because I reiterated the important parts of a map so often, I do think the majority of students understood this concept as well.
