Subject or Topic:

Math-Geometry Performance Assessment

STANDARD: C.2.3.4.A.2 Classify two dimensional figures by properties of their lines and angles. CC.2.3.4.A.1 Draw lines and angles and identify these in two dimensional figures. CC.2.3.4.A.3 Recognize symmetric shapes and draw lines of symmetry. I. Performance Objectives (Learning Outcomes): The students will practice the principles of geometry through drawings and diagrams. II. Instructional Materials -Grid paper -Dream Home Directions -Dream Home Example -Dream Home Cover Sheet -Dream Home description page III. Subject Matter/Content (prerequisite skills, key vocabulary, big idea). A. Prerequisite skills The students will need a basic understanding of all of the topics covered in geometry so far including: polygons, triangles, angles, quadrilaterals, lines, congruent figures, similar figures, symmetry, perimeter, area and volume. B. Key Vocabulary 1.Polygon: a closed plane figure made of line segments. 2. Equilateral: all sides equal 3. Isosceles: at least two side equal in length 4. Scalene: no equal sides 5. Right angle: a square corner 6. Acute angle: less than a right angle

7. Obtuse angle: greater than a right angle but less than a straight line. 8. Quadrilateral: a polygon with 4 sides. 9. Perimeter: The length around an object. 10. Area: The amount inside of a two dimensional object. 11.Volume: number of cubic units needed to fill a solid. C. Big Idea: The principles of geometry we have learned can be used in real life situations. IV. Implementation A. Introduction 1. Review a few of the topics we had discussed previously. Ask about shapes, and triangles, and angles in the room. Now explain that we are going to use all that we have learned to design our own homes. B. Development Day 1: 1. Hand out the directions sheet to all of the students. As a class read the sheet and explain any details along the way. Show the example to reinforce the idea. 2. Tell students that for today we will work on part 1 only. 3. Have the students work on the project and at the end of class pack up and hold onto it in order to work on it tomorrow in class. Day 2: 1. Have the students re-explain what they are supposed to be working on in class today. 2. Allow the students to begin and try to finish up as much as they can of their project. 3. When they finish what is required of the inside of their book, they may begin designing their front and back covers of their book. C. Closure 1. Have the students clean up what they are working on and tell them that whatever they have not finished will be due on Friday. D. Accommodations/Differentiation -The project allows for students to make a house that is elaborate and complex or a little more simple depending on how well they understand the topic. E. Assessment/Evaluation Plan 1. Formative- I will walk around to monitor and remind the students of the requirements, making sure they are understanding the project. 2. Summative-The Dream House books will be collected and graded using a rubric.
