ABSTRACT

In a century that may see the end of the vast fossil fuel reserves that have provided us with energy for automotive and other technologies, and in which fears about carbon emissions are coming to a peak, efficiency of automobiles is becoming very important. This presentation provides an analysis of vehicle regenerative braking system as a quick and relatively easy methods of achieving higher overall fuel efficiency and lowering carbon emissions. The braking system involves the installation of an additional electric motor/generator in parallel to the vehicles internal combustion engine and is used in conjunction with a DCDC convertor and an ultracapacitor. The system is used to recapture the energy lost in vehicle braking, significantly reducing a vehicles overall energy consumption and lowering vehicle emissions.Experimentally based evidence is collected and compared for two vehicles to deduce the potential fuel and emission savings.
