Professional Development Goals PSII Dakota Ruschkowski Section E-Science Major Goal #1:

Use many different kinds of formative assessment (including pre-assessment) and then apply these to my future lessons. This will include differentiation for exceptionalities and learning styles
KSA #11:

The purposes of student assessment. They know how to assess the range of learning objectives by selecting and developing a variety of classroom and large-scale assessment techniques and instruments. They know how to analyze the results of classroom and large-scale assessment instruments including provincial assessment instruments, and how to use the results for the ultimate benefit of students;
Strategies(Actions): -At the beginning of the unit have a pre-assessment sheet that will find student interest and learning style. -Have a variety of types of exit slips, or formative assessments -Be ready to change future lessons Resources: -My TA -ready made worksheets/quizzes from the teacher resource for Science Focus 7 -observations and questioning during class -different types of formative assessment (lists can be found online) Indicators of Success: -Assessments will be noticeably affecting my classroom by references in my planning -Ability to reference student results during class in order to explain my methods -Transition from general teaching to student specific teaching for the classroom

Goal #2:

My classroom will be a reactive environment that is ready to answer any and all inquisitive questions that students may have about the learning. Presenting the topic and the general information and then working as a class to explore the depths of it.
KSA#1:

Contextual variables affect teaching and learning. They know how to analyse many variables at one time, and how to respond by making reasoned decisions about their teaching practice and students learning;
Strategies (Actions): The main strategy will be too never leave a question that a student asks unanswered and having an understanding that often a question asked by one is thought by many. These questions are often based in some curiosity and this should be encouraged. I think that having a lesson plan is great, but sometimes you need to allow the students curiosity lead the class to where it needs to be. The strategy of being able to access the internet or change the direction of the class at any moment is important. This also applies from class to class and continuation through a unit. Resources: -Have Google ready to go at all times -Have access to university experts in the unit in order to ask higher level questions -Give periods of questioning before, during and after lesson -Create a extra questions box for students that do not wish to speak in front of class -Have lessons that can change and be developed by the students -Use Smart Board to show other students answer -formative assessment giving students the chance to answer what would you like to know more about? Indicators of Success: -The number of questions in the class will increase -When an answer is not known it is immediately research or brought back for the next day -The question box is not ignored -I will ask my TA to directly address and evaluate me on my abilities for this.
