Joy Fuller Guided Writing Lesson Context: There are 25 third grade students in the classroom.

One student works with a Para and had different educational goals. Two students get pulled out during Language Arts for part of the time. I will be working with the Royals group. There are four students in this group. This group of students struggle with reading. State Standards: LA 0.2.1.b Apply prewriting activities to generate ideas (e.g., brainstorming, discussions, drawing, literature, personal/classroom experiences) Goal: Students will be able to converse and write about the story that they have read. Objectives: Student will be able to recall the story through writing. Students will be able to answer orally the questions that are asked of them. Students will be able to write about the questions asked of them. Set: We are going to talk about the story The Promise of Gold Mountain today. Who can tell me what the story was about? Materials: 4 copies of The Promise of Gold Mountain, Writing Folders, pencil Activities: Summarize the story and ask the students questions and have them answer the questions Content: Today we are going to talk about the story The Promise of Gold Mountain. I am going to ask you some questions and then you are going to write the answers in your writing journals. So now that we have heard the summary of the story will you please write about Why people immigrate? Remember to use complete sentences. Skip lines as well. Where was Wai Ming at the beginning of the story? Where was Wai Ming at the end? When did the story take place? What was the sequence of events? What happened beginning, middle, in the end? What did you learn from the story? How would you feel if you were Wai Ming? During this time I will take time to read each one of the answers that the student wrote and help them by prompting them to expand on their thoughts or work on specific writing skills. Closure: Great job today, please put your writing folder away and go to your seats. Assessment: Assessment can be taken by reading their writing.
