Today were going to focus on compound subjects and predicates. Tomorrow well look at compound sentences. Lets pretend its your birthday tomorrow. What would you ask for if you could have anything? would be nice. (fill in the blank with your gifts)
We use conjunctions as connecting words. Most often, we use and or or, but others can be used too.
Lets see some examples. Remember, subjects are nouns/pronouns, those are yellow. Conjunctions are brown.
1. Keith and Monica practice often. 2. Neither my brother nor my sister will sing tomorrow. 3. Parents, relatives, and friends may attend the concert.

Conjunctions can also make compound predicates. Remember, predicate is the fancy way to say verb, or the action of a sentence, these are orange.
What are some things kids like to do at the park? Kids at the park . (fill in the blank)

Write one more sentence with a compound subject, and one more with a compound predicate.

A compound sentence is made up of two simple sentences. The simple sentences are joined by a COMMA and a connecting word like and, or, or but.
The thing to remember about a compound sentence is that it has 2 EQUAL parts.
