THE LONDON TIMES

An Inside Interview with Mr. Sherlock Holmes

TIMES: So Mr. Holmes, what was your most thrilling recent case? HOLMES: I would have to say the case of the Hound of the Baskervilles, as it was a most trying case involving supernatural elements, which I naturally disposed of immediately. TIMES: What do you mean by supernatural? HOLMES: The Baskerville family has a curious story dating back hundreds of years. The story tells of a ghostly hound that roams the moors of Devonshire and hunts the leader of the Baskerville clan. The late Sir Charles was extremely superstitious and afraid of the spectral hound. His cause of death was a heart attack induced by terror. TIMES: Interesting, so obviously the myth proved false? HOLMES: Of course! The idea of a fiery hell-hound is preposterous! As it turns out, the neighbor Stapleton had a vendetta against the Baskervilles and wanted to claim the fortune for himself. He set his dog loose on Sir Charles which caused the baronets death. TIMES: Excellent sleuthing detective. We also hear that you misled your colleague Dr. Watson by telling him you were in London while you were actually in Devonshire. What say you to that?

HOLMES: I did what was necessary to receive the best results. By allowing Watson to work alone, I encouraged his deductive powers and increased his sleuthing ability. Secondly, by living undercover, I was able to observe the circumstances in a different light. Since Stapleton was unaware of my presence, I easily entrapped him. Watson forgives me. TIMES: We are glad. Thank you so much for gifting us with your time. May all your future endeavors be as successful as this one! HOLMES: I will settle for nothing less.
