Gymnastics Michiana Booster Club Meeting Minutes Date: July 15, 2009 Meeting called to order by Mark Marchi at 7:30 p.m. Meeting adjourned at 8:20 p.m. as 2 now . Reminder: Welcome to new team members - happy to have you with us! a. Introductions of parents, gymnasts, & coaches Coach Amy Jo discussed new coaching rotation (attached) a. Parent Question: Which coach will be responsible for meets? Per Amy Jo some of that will be determined based on the published session schedule for each meet and what is best for the team (i.e, most effective for the gymnasts & most economical for club) b. Amy Jo also indicated that Glenda Klemczewski (gymnastics judge & Amy Jo's mother) will advise the coaches of changes to judging requirements that have occurred over the past year ‘M Team Cookout a. Blair Hills pool b. Thursday, July 16%, 6pm - 9pm. c. Remember to park in lots & not on street . Committee sign-up sheets will be posted soon a. Suggestion: add marketing committee . Carleen Quinlan & Corrie Klimek volunteered to fill in for officers that resigned ._ Dan Poe was elected the rep for IGSS northern rep; his term is 2009 - 2011 |. TOPs a. Cecilia Taylor participated in the last TOPs testing event in Cincinnati b. General discussion re: TOPs ensued ©. TOPs program will continue & be coached by Coaches Jenny and Brittany d. This will be open to all girls that meet the age criteria e. Additionally, portions of the TOPs conditioning will be incorporated into the normal team conditioning f. Watch for more information regarding TOPs to follow a. Meet schedule will be published by state board in the next few weeks b. Our schedule will be determined after that time c. Weare currently discussing which meets to attend and will have some idea within the next few days about which meets we'd like to attend d. We bid on two meets (note: these are only bids & we have to wait for the state board to determine who is awarded each requested date or meet as several clubs bid). The meets we elected to bid on are: i, LS State 1. Date: March 13-14, 2010 2. Location = St. Mary's College Angela Center ii, DL (designated local) 1. Date: November 14-15, 2009 Page 1 of 2 2. Location: GM 3. Levels: All levels including L3 & PrepOp iii, If by chance we are not awarded the LS state meet we will try to. secure an additional DL meet; perhaps the week-end of February 27, 2010. This is yet to be determined. e. Parent Question: Why do we go to smaller meets when oftentimes we are the only team competing in a particular level? Per Amy Jo we try to support other teams which support us and it is an opportunity for the gymnasts to compete and perform their skills/routines in front of judges f Parent Question: With a smaller team this year will older gymnasts and siblings have the opportunity to work our home meets? Yes 9. General questions/suggestions a. We currently have a smaller team with fewer coaches and the same fixed costs (rent, etc.); how will this impact our financial situation? Per Mark we will discuss this with Andy Poe and Amy Jo to determine where we stand and what the overall impact will be - it is too early to say at this time. We do rely heavily on our DL meets, State meet (if we are awarded one) and any other fund raising activity b. Have we considered anything to market, promote, or otherwise get the word out regarding GM & the team? Yes! Some ideas that we are working right now are: i. Per Kim Redman (class director/instructor & team parent) there will bea Stranger Awareness program and open house held at the gym on ‘Aug 16" in conjunction with the local law enforcement i. Currently the club board is gathering information about the possibility of selling programs at ND games or perhaps working a concession stand at game in order to raise funds iii. Suggestion - “free sample” e.g, try-out a class program or bring a friend day iv. Weare open to all marketing & fundraising suggestions - bring your ideas forward © c. Suggestion: is it possible to have Glenda come to a parents’ meeting with tips and information regarding what judges are looking for during a meet? Similar to what Jenny Miller would do for the team. This may be especially helpful for the new team parents.
