Aims: The aim of this essay is to unpick the central themes of the first half of PI. Dont get bogged down in the text as there is a fair amount of reading here. Soldier through and pick out the main themes, focusing perhaps on just one or two of Wittgensteins illustrations. Touch on the issues of what philosophy has been conceived as incorrectly in the past, and what Wittgenstein suggests it must become. Think in terms of epistemology, of how someone comes to know the meanings of words, and therefore comes to know and express his experience of the world around him. Although this question will continue into the second section, the theme is present throughout.
