Core Competency IV

Engage diversity and difference in practice

4.1 Recognize the extent to which a cultures structures and values may oppress, marginalize, alienate, or create or enhance privilege and power.

While interning at Scotland County DSS, Child Protective Services I will observe various groups of clients; learning and recognizing many cultural and environmental effects with the goal of developing useful skills to better serve the community with.

Timeframe: throughout this internship

4.2 Gain sufficient self-awareness to eliminate the influence of personal biases and values in working with diverse groups.

During this internship I will make certain to not allow my personal values and biases influence my conduct while interacting with servicing clients. I must be considerate of each clients individualism and ideologies.

4.3 Recognize and communicate their understanding of the importance of difference in shaping life experiences.

This internship has afforded me with experiences of observations of how life experiences has the ability to shape and mold people at all stages of life.

4.4 View themselves as learners and engage those with whom as informants.

As an intern I will identify the clients understanding and comprehension when explaining the process or other interventions being implemented.
