PUPIL INFORMATION: (EG. NUMBERS OF SEN; EAL) This is the whole group instruction this ranges from students in the Support group, to students in the Core group to students in the Extension group. There are 18, 23, and 20 students in each group respectively for the two year four classes. There are 4 EAL students. There are 5 SEN students. LESSON SUMMARY: STUDENTS ARE BEING INTRODUCED TO NEWPAPER REPORTS AND NEED REVIEW ON HOW TO CREATE AND PUNCTUATE SENTENCES AND THIS IS BEING CONTINUED TODAY. This will start to get students into the meat of the articles and not just comparing what they see, but more of what is included in the text. ICT Opportunities N/A Classroom Organization (including riskResources: assessment and behavior management plan) IWB, newspapers, literacy draft books The whole group will be facing the smartboard some are sitting at the desks and others will be situated on the carpet if they need to see the board or focus better. The students will face the board and the teacher will do the input lesson. Then students and classes will break off into their core, support, and extension groups to do their activities at their pods. The management should be about the same as usual, maybe a little harder to monitor the materials because there will be different newspaper clippings all over.

Activity Introduction This is a whole group activity introduction to literacy where the teacher will do a sentence building activity. The teacher will give out collections of words and the students will make sentences out of these words that make sense. This will be modelled to the students before they are expected to complete it. The teacher will model a news article on the board and will point out and note different parts. Headline (on a banner?) Alliteration 5 Ws in the lead Special orientation Conclusion, etc. Also discuss who the audience was for this, why was this written? So then go over how this is the structure for a newspaper report, now go and find this in other articles. Main Activity (Including differentiation/details of groupings/work for early finishers) Students break off into their groups, Support, Core, and Extension. The students will work on differentiated versions of the same assignment. SUPPORT CORE EXTENSION All students will complete an analysis on the Macys Day Parade news article. The groups will discuss the important parts and see if they are included. Plenary (including key questions) To close off the lesson students will come back the whole group and the teacher will go over what was learned. The plenary will be for the students to model their great sentence writing on the IWB by sharing what was learnt. Assessment (focus and methods) Students will be assessed on their ability to complete an analysis of the paper and seeing if this follows the rough creation of a success criteria that we came up with.
