Eradicate Extreme Poverty and Hunger

(Percentage of people in multidimensional poverty)
Multidimensional poverty - group of deprivations that include more than just income.

Peru: 15.7% Uganda: 69.9%

Peru - Cut amount of people living below the poverty line from 51% in 2000 to 25.8%. They are already set to meet their goal. Uganda - Has shown some growth but 38% of people still live off of less than $1.25 a day. They will not meet their goal.

Achieve Universal Primary Education

Adult Literacy Rate (15 and older), 2010

Peru: 89.6% Uganda: 73.2%

Uganda has made huge progress in the last few years compared to Peru but still falls slightly short. The goal is to ensure that every child receives an education and Peru is close but Uganda still has a ways to go.

Promote Gender Equality and Empower Women

Literacy Rate of Women (as a percentage of men)

Peru: 89% Uganda: 78%

Uganda has about 3 literate adult females for 4 literate adult males. Many female activists ask for better schooling and more equal opportunities. Both countries want schooling to be equal for everyone despite gender. The percentage for younger girls is higher. Peru will most likely reach its goal while Uganda will not.

Reduce Child Mortality

Child Mortality Rate (Under 5, per 1,000 live births)

Peru: 17 deaths Goal: 23 deaths Uganda: 68 deaths Goal: 60 deaths

This is the goal where both countries have improved tremendously and we can only expect them to keep improving. The goal was to cut two-thirds off their original number. Peru has already reached its goal and Uganda is well on its way. It is projected to reach that goal.

Improve Maternal Health

Percentage of Increasing Fertility Rates Per Year

Peru: 2.6% Uganda: 3.4%

Peru has a very high percentage of women who die while being pregnant or by giving birth. They lack the right resources to have safe and healthy pregnancies.

Uganda has slowly improved but will not meet the goal for 2015 and will continue to fall short if they dont take more action for improving maternal health.

Combat HIV/AIDS, Malaria, and other Diseases

Peru HIV: .4% Malaria: 478 Uganda HIV: 7.3% Malaria: 36,233 Percentage of people living with HIV (age 15-49) and Prevalence of Malaria per 100,000 Peru doesnt have as much problems with HIV or other diseases as compared to Uganda. In the 1990s Uganda made a lot of progress with HIV but in recent years has been a reversal process and are seeing more people with HIV/AIDS.

Ensure Environmental Sustainability

Percentage or safe drinking water and goal for 2015

Peru: 85% Goal: 85% Uganda: 68% Goal: 89%

Peru has already met this goal and they met it back in 2010. They are continuing to get better water to people in rural areas still. With help from UNDP Uganda is on track to meet the 2015 goal and is ensure safe drinking water for more rural areas.

Develop a Global Partnership for Development

Internet Users per 100 people

Peru: 34.30 Uganda: 12.50

Global development relates to the availability of information and communication technology.

In 2010 Peru had made a lot of progress with getting internet while Uganda was just starting to advance. Peru has met this goal set and Uganda is close.
