If you are interested in playing the violin, viola, cello or bass, and enjoy playing string music, this course is for you. As a performance-based course, designed for students entering Grades 9 and 10, you will develop technical and musical skills on your instrument, and have the opportunity to perform at various school events, either solo or as part of an ensemble or both. In addition to studying rudiments of music theory, elements of music history/culture, and composers/compositional techniques, this class explores topics of special interest related to the world of strings.
IDC4UPA PERFORMING ARTS EXTENSION - GRADE 12 PREREQUISITE: GRADE 12 IN A PERFORMING ARTS COURSE (DRAMA, MUSIC, OR DANCE)
This unique extension course allows grade 12 Performing Arts students the chance to culminate in their chosen discipline with several options. Students may choose to examine portfolio and repertoire development for post-secondary applications, interdisciplinary projects, advanced instructor supported lessons and projects, independent inquiry projects, and non-traditional performing arts centered real-world initiatives. All these choices offer the Musicians, Actors, Singers, Directors and Dancers a chance to wrap up their time as an artist at BSS in an impressive fashion. Course dynamics and focus are based on number of applicants. All applicants must have a grade 12 course in either Music, Dance or Drama.
PREREQUISITE: NONE
This course introduces students to the achievements of the classical world through the study of Latin. Students will learn vocabulary and grammar essential for reading and translating classical texts. English is the language of instruction. Through a variety of enrichment activities, such as presentations, debates, and dialogues, students will explore such aspects of life in the ancient world as trade, commerce, education, entertainment, and social customs while improving their language skills.
