Big Idea/Lesson Focus: Cause and effect Essential Question: What will happen when you give a mouse a cookie? Context for Learning: There are 22 students, 9 males and 13 females, in a suburban kindergarten classroom. The students range in age from 4-6 years old. There is one ELL student, but there is no affect or changes needed in the classroom. There are no at risk or students on IEPs in the classroom. Function of the Lesson (check all that apply): Introduce New Skill or Content Practice Review Remediation/Reteaching

Content Standards: CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RL.K.10 Actively engage in group reading activities with purpose and understanding. Learning Objectives: Students will be able to actively engage in a group reading activity by correctly placing image cards of items from the story in a cup when the images are mentioned in the book with 100% accuracy. Academic Language (or A.L. Demands, A.L. Objectives):

Students will be able to effectively use the following words in a sentence: next, character, setting, title. Instructional Materials and Support: Paper cups, Mouse cutout, mini image cards, crayons, scissors, glue, big book If You Give a Mouse a Cookie by Laura Joffe Numeroff, and corresponding manipulatives, plastic sandwich bag. Prior Knowledge: The teacher will ask the students if they have ever read the book If You Give a Mouse a Cookie by Laura Joffe Numeroff before. She will then ask if students have read any other books by the author. Assessments: Pre-Assessment for the unit: N/A Assessment(s) during the lesson: The students will place mini image cards in a cup as they hear/see the words/images when the story is being read. Assessment(s) at the end of the lesson: N/A Post-Assessment for the unit N/A

Strategies & Learning Tasks Introduction: The teacher explain to the class that they will be reading the book If You Give a Mouse a Cookie by Laura Joffe Numeroff . The teacher will explain that they will first be listening and watching a video of the story being read. (5 min.) Presentation/Explicit Instruction: The teacher will play the video for the students to listen and watch the story being read. (4 min.) Structured Practice/Exploration: N/A Guided Practice/Specific Feedback: The teacher will then give the students a mouse cutout to color and a cup for them to glue the mouse to once they color and cut out the mouse. The teacher will also give each student a packet of mini image cards from the story in a plastic bag. The teacher will then have the students gather on the carpet with their mouse cup and mini image cards. The teacher will read the story If You Give a Mouse a Cookie by Laura Joffe Numeroff and will tell the students to place the image cards in their mouse cup as they see/here them while

the story is being read. The teacher will be doing the same with large manipulatives as the story is being read. (20 min) Independent Practice/Application: N/A Closure: The teacher will review what items were mentioned in the story and what the story was about with the students. (2 min.) Differentiation, Individualized Instruction, and Assessment: The teacher will use a microphone and repeat directions for the ELL student. Research and Theory: This lesson followed the theory of Albert Banduras concept of modeling. The teacher would model and demonstrate for the students when using the manipulatives when telling the story and the students using the corresponding image card.
