    Cousins are friends and rivals. Cousins are funny and frustrating. But the most important thing is that cousins are family. We are Cousins / Somos primos celebrates the joy of this special family bond. The children explain that they are cousins because their mothers are sisters, and from the moment they get together, the fun begins. They march in a make-believe parade, gobble up a pizza, and share a cozy story on Abuelo’s lap. But they also blame each other if something goes wrong, don’t want to share their toys, and wiggle against each other to nab a spot on Abuela’s lap. Written in simple language for children ages 3-5, the brief English and Spanish text will become a valuable tool to encourage children to think and talk about their own families. It will also become a favorite book for children and grandchildren to share with their parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and of course, cousins. Vivid illustrations by Christina Rodriguez in bright, primary colors complement this story that will be as much fun to read at story hour as it will be to read on the family sofa.

    Our mothers are sisters.

    We have to share Grandpas lap.

    Diane Gonzales Bertrand comes from a big family of cousins who played together as children. She watched her nieces and nephews enjoy the same relationship and decided to celebrate family togetherness with this story. Bertrand also wrote Family, Familia, a book about two cousins who meet at a family reunion, and two delicious books about food and family: Sip, Slurp, Soup, Soup / Caldo, caldo, caldo and The Empanadas that Abuela Made / Las Empanadas que haca la abuela. She lives in San Antonio, Texas with her wonderful family. Diane Gonzales Bertrand viene de una familia de muchos primos que jugaban juntos cuando eran nios. Vio que sus sobrinas y sobrinos disfrutaban de la misma relacin y decidi celebrar la unin familiar con esta historia. Bertrand tambin escribi Family, Familia, un libro sobre dos primos que se conocen en una reunin familiar, y dos deliciosos libros sobre la comida y la familia: Sip, Slurp, Soup, Soup / Caldo, caldo, caldo y The Empanadas that Abuela Made / Las Empanadas que haca la abuela.     An Air Force brat born to multicultural parents overseas, Christina E. Rodriguez grew up loving to draw and paint. She earned her BFA in Illustration from the Rhode Island School of Design in 2003 and presently works as a freelance illustrator and designer. Christina also illustrated Mayt and the Bogeyman / Mayt y el Cuco and Un da con mis tas / A Day with my Aunts for Piata Books. She lives with her husband and their dog in historic Stillwater, Minnesota. Christina E. Rodriguez naci en el extranjero a padres multiculturales, miembros de las Fuerzas Areas. Rodriguez creci disfrutando del dibujo y de la pintura. Recibi su BFA de Rhode Island School of Design en 2003 y ahora trabaja como ilustradora y diseadora independiente. Rodriguez tambin ilustr Mayt and the Bogeyman / Mayt y el Cuco y Un da con mis tas / A Day with my Aunts para Piata Books. Rodriguez vive con su esposo y su perro en Stillwater, Minnesota.
