MEMRISTOR

INTRODUCTION
Currently known fundamental passive elements- Resistors, Capacitors & Inductors. MEMRISTOR is the 4th passive element. Memristors are passive two terminal circuit elements. Behaves like non-linear resistor with memory.

What is a MEMRISTOR ?
Memristor is MEMory + ResISTOR
Memristor can be defined as a two terminal device which shows the relation between magnetic flux and charge

=Mq
Where m is the memristance

Memristor symbol Unit = Ohms()

Physical Model

D- Diameter of thin film w- width of doped region

RON & ROFF Resistance ON/OFF state

Working Principle Of MEMRISTOR

When a positive potential is applied to the TiO2-x side these positive charges repelled towards the TiO2 layer. If a negative potential is applied to TiO2-x side these positive charges attracted back to the TiO2-x

MCAM CELL

5-T NOR Type

6-T NOR Type

7-T NOR Type

7-T NAND Type

Benefits
Reliability when power is interrupted. Great data density. Less expensive. Operating outside of 0s and 1s. By changing current, behavior can be changed. Do not consume power when idle. May replace transistors in ICs and has the potential to open door to a brand new type of electronics.

Advantages
Cheaper, Faster and be able to hold memory density than flash memory.

Remembers its electrical state which could replace RAM in future.

Make Computers, Portable devices more smaller and more powerful.

Applications
As a switch.

As a non volatile memory.

Booting free computers. Can perform logic operations. In artificial neural networks.
