ADVANCED ESSBASE WORKSHOP !

Course: Advanced Essbase Workshop Duration: 4 days Prerequisites: Applied Essbase Course or relevant Essbase Experience This four day course is designed to add to the toolset of an experienced Essbase Developer. Through interactive discussions, demonstrations, and hands-on exercises you will learn methods to improve design decisions, ease the maintenance workload, and add value to your current and future Essbase projects. Discussion areas include choosing between Block and Aggregate storage options, member and dimensional storage options, advanced calculation development and testing techniques, ASO development options, MDX, MaxL, backup and recovery, tuning for optimal performance across all aspects of the application, configuration strategies, and security in both Essbase native as well as Shared Services modes.

Course Overview Modeling Decisions/Data Load and Dimension Build Best Practices Cover key choices including ASO vs BSO, properties and settings, Time/Scenario/Versions, Shared rollups and Attribute dimensions, SmartView and Add-In differentiation. After modeling, we cover dimension and data load best practices. BSO Architecture and Advanced Calculations This day focuses on key performance settings for BSO. We go over backup/recovery and architecture of BSO cubes. After this, we dive deeply into advanced calculations building out solutions to commonly found real-world problems. Well give even experienced calc script writers some challenging new ways to use calculations and formulas. ASO and MDX Day 1 covered the basics of ASO. Here, we delve deeper into advanced topics such as loading data efficiently, choosing the best aggregation strategy, getting around ASO limitations, Time design. We then look at many of the same problems presented in the BSO calculations and learn to solve them with MDX. Deployment We cover key topics in deployment: partitioning, security and shared services, configuration settings, and tuning. To support lights-out operations, we make sure you understand how to maximize the use of MaxL for automation.
