PURPOSE:

ThepurposeoftheClementsAthleticBoosterClub ScholarshipProgramistoencouragehigh
scholastic achievement among the athletes of Clements High School and to promote
sportsmanship,recognizeathleticachievement,andtoassistwiththecostsofhighereducation.
Fourscholarshipswillbeawardedannuallytotwomaleandtwofemaleathletes.

ELIGIBILITY:

AnygraduatingseniorofClementsHighSchoolwhohasparticipatedinorganized,interschool
athleticsforatleasttwofullyears,atleastoneofwhichmusthavebeenduringtheirjunioror
senioryearatClementsHighSchoolandisanactivememberoftheClementsAthleticBooster
Clubwillbeeligibleforthisscholarship.Theapplicantshallhavebeenaccepted(orhavemade
application and is pending) to a recognized institution of higher learning. The scholarship is
subject to NCAA rules and regulations. If a student athlete has been awarded a full ride
scholarshipbytheirchosenschool,theywillnotbeeligibleforthisscholarship.

DUEDATE:

Applications should be submitted by April 14th (Monday) directly to Janice Micheaux in the
ClementsCounselorsofficeorturnedintotheFrontOfficetobeplacedintheAthleticBooster
Clubmailbox.(Attention:DarlaSpengeman,CABCScholarshipChair)

SELECTIONCRITERIA:

1.
Degree of participation and awards/honors received in organized, competitive,
interschoolathletics.
2.
Scholasticachievement.
3.
Participationinschoolandcommunityactivities.
4.
Generalcitizenshipandcharacter.

APPLICATIONREQUIREMENTS:

(Neatness, grammar, spelling and punctuation will be considered in scoring.

2.
Submit a one page (singlespaced) essay outlining plans for further education,
sportsorschoolhonorsearned,andhowyourinvolvementinClementsathletics
hashelpedyouinyoureducationandlife.Additionally,theymustoutlinethe
influence competition and teamwork has had and will have in their lives.

Submit two letters of recommendation, which specifically state the applicants

qualifications in each of the four areas listed above in the Selection Criteria
section. Suggestions for letters of recommendation could include high school
principal, counselors, teachers, minister, or employers. One letter of
recommendationmustbefromsomeoneotherthanaschooldistrictemployee.
With the submission of your application, you are agreeing to release a copy of
your transcript to the scholarship committee. Applicants do not request a
transcript; the CABC Scholarship Chair will submit a request for all eligible
applicants.

FINALISTS:

Thenumberofcandidatesmaybenarroweddowntosixfinalists(threemaleandthreefemale)
intheeventthattherearemorethan20applications.

INTERVIEW:

Finalists may be required to attend an interview conducted by members of the Clements

AthleticBoosterClubScholarshipCommittee.

PRESENTATIONS:

The Booster Club will present the winning candidates with their award at the May Senior
AwardsceremonyonMay21,2014.

PAYMENT:

Aonetimepaymentof$1,000willbemadetotheregistrarofthechosenschoolinonecomplete
installmentatthebeginningoftheschoolyear.

SELECTION&SCORINGCRITERIA
1. Four to six Booster Club members are to serve as the Selection Committee. The
applicants will be evaluated anonymously. Only the chairman (who will not
evaluatetheapplications)willknowtheidentitiesoftheapplicants.
2. Coaches or faculty members of Clements High School may be consulted for
information regarding individual applicants. However, they will not have a vote
duringtheselectionprocess.
3. Theapplicantshallsubmitapacketwhichcontains:
a. ClementsAthleticBoosterClubScholarshipApplication.
b. One page (singlespaced) essay outlining plans for further education, sports or
school honors earned, and how their involvement in Clements athletics has
inspired, motivated and challenged them to pursue further educational
opportunities. Additionally, they must outline the influence competition and
teamworkhashadandwillhaveintheirlives.
c. Two letters of recommendation, which specifically state the applicants
qualifications to the degree of participation in organized, competitive, inter
school athletics, scholastic achievement, and participation in school and
community activities, general citizenship and character. One of the letters of
recommendationmustbefromsomeoneotherthanaschooldistrictemployee.
4. TheGPAwillbeconvertedintoanumericalscorebetween130.(Thiswillbedone
by the Selection Committee Chair and shall be inserted in the GPA column on the
EvaluationFormpriortotheformbeinggiventotheevaluators.)

SECTIONA:SPORTSPARTICIPATION:

Fivepointsshallbeawardedforeachsemestertheapplicantparticipatedinasport,at
least two of which must have been during the junior or senior year. Maximum of 40
points.

SECTIONSB,C&D:SPORTSHONORS&AWARDS,NONSPORTSCHOOLAND
COMMUNITYPARTICIPATION

SectionsB,C&Dontheapplicationformshallbescoredfrom0to10pointseach.In
addition,neatness,grammar,spellingandpunctuationshallbeconsideredaswell.

ESSAY:

TheEssayshallbeassignedapointvalueof020bytheSelectionCommittee.Neatness,
grammar, spelling and punctuation shall be considered. The Essay must outline the
followingcriteria:

a. FurtherEducationgoals;
b. Sportsorschoolhonorsearned;and
c.HowtheirinvolvementinClementsathleticshasinspired,motivatedandchallenged
themtopursuefurthereducationalopportunities.Additionally,theymustoutlinethe
influencecompetitionandteamworkhashadandwillhaveintheirlives.

FINALSCORING:

TheChairpersonofthescholarshipcommitteewilltabulatethescoresanddeterminethe
winnersbasedonthosetabulations.Thenamesoftheawardwinnersshallbegivento
the Booster President and are to be kept secret until announced at the Senior Awards
ceremony.
