All are invited. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Abstract: The lecture will cover both transmission and distribution developments. It will show the different actors and their interactions and will indicate possibilities for Research and Development. Special emphasis of the lecture will be on the integration of renewable energy resources. The interaction with buildings and transport will be discussed. About the Speaker: Professor Ronnie Belmans received the M.S. degree in electrical engineering in 1979 and the Ph.D. degree in 1984, both from the K.U.Leuven, Belgium, the Special Doctorate in 1989 and the Habilitierung in 1993, both from the RWTH, Aachen, Germany. Currently, he is a full professor with the K.U.Leuven, teaching electric power and energy systems. His research interests include techno-economic aspects of power systems, power quality and distributed generation. He is also guest professor at Imperial College of Science, Medicine and Technology, London-UK. From June 2002 he is chairman of the board of directors of ELIA, the Belgian transmission grid operator and since June 2010 honorary Chairman of the board of directors of ELIA. Prof. Belmans is an author and co-author of over 500 papers in international journals, conferences, lectures and local conferences. He is a co-founder of the K U Leuven Energy Institute and a co-founder of the European Energy Institute and is the chairman of the European Smart Grid Technology Platform.
