Day 1: Industrialization

(Tuesday, February 4)

Lecture: Students will take quick notes on 2nd Industrial Revolution

Day 2: Child Labor Laws and Work Conditions

(Wednesday, February 5)

Warm Up: Students will see a PowerPoint showing pictures about child labor from Lewis Hine Reading: Students will complete a short reading on Child Labor in the Industrial Revolution then answer questions Reading: Students will read an excerpt from The Jungle and answer questions

Day 3: Industrialization QUIZ | Immigration Webquest


(Thursday, February 6)

Quiz on Industrialization Webquest: Students will complete iCivics Webquest to learn common terms and basic ideas about immigration to guide the unit

Day 4: Homestead Act


(Monday, February 10)

Warm Up: What are push and pull factors? Examples? Simulation: Students will discuss whether or not they would move to XR-38 and then discuss reasons Reading: Students will complete a reading on the Homestead Act and make connections to the simulation

Day 5: Immigration Timeline


(Tuesday, February 11)

Warm Up: What is the Homestead Act? Was it a push or pull factor? Webquest: Students will complete the Immigration Timeline Webquest to learn about important movements in immigration

Day 6: Immigration Reading


(Wednesday, February 12)

Warm Up: What is the National Origins Act? Reading: Students will begin reading Immigration and Urbanization and take notes on the reading. Students will also answer the check-point questions and questions four and five on page 79. Homework: Complete the reading & questions.

Day 7: Ellis Island Tour

(Thursday, February 13)

Warm Up: Immigration Reading Continued: Review & turn in homework, including the check-point questions and questions two, four, five, and six on page 79. Warm Up: What were two challenges faced by immigrants when they arrived to the US? Webquest: Students will begin the Ellis Island Webquest while taking a virtual tour of the facility.

Day 8: Ellis Island Tour


(Friday, February 14)

Warm Up: What was shocking about the tour so far? Webquest: Students will finish the Ellis Island Webquest while taking a virtual tour of the facility. Reading: Students will complete a reading on Americas Fear of Outsiders and the answer the questions on the worksheet
