Present and Past Tense of Regular Verbs

Tense means time. Verbs tell us not only what action is occurring but also when it is occurring.

WHAT IS IT NOW?!
The present tense refers to action that is happening now. We add an s when the subject is singular, except for when the pronoun is I or you.

PLURAL SUBJECTS:
Cats meow I run You eat We study

SINGULAR SUBJECTS:
The cat meows He runs She eats Javier studies

When a verb ends in s, x, z, ch, or shm we add es when the subject is singular.

Robert blushes A soda fizzes A pitcher pitches

When a verb ends in a consonant and a y, we change the y to i and add es for the singular form.

The past tense shows action that has already occurred. To form the past tense of regular verbs, we add ed.

When a one-syllable verb ends in a consonant, we double the consonant and add ed.
rub rubbed mop - mopped

When a verb ends in e, we drop the e and add d. Thats it for Ex.: now! bake - baked We hope to see you When the verb ends in y, we change the y to i and add ed. again! Ex.: dry - dried
