Rationale
The purpose of the Branksome Code of Conduct is to encourage fair, ethical treatment of all persons and organizations that come under the umbrella of Branksome Hall Asia. Obviously some sections of the code will be applicable to a range of roles. All persons will agree to abide by the Branksome Code of Conduct and acknowledge that any breach of the Code of Conduct, or any part of it, may result in disciplinary action. The following Code of Conduct applies to all students, faculty members and parents participating in Branksome cocurricular and academy sporting activities. In general, as a member and/or participant you should meet the following requirements with regard to your conduct during any Branksome sanctioned activity:

Academy Code of Conduct


Never act in any way that may bring disrepute or disgrace to Branksome community. Branksome Hall expects all members, supporters, advisors, staff and associates of Branksome to abide by a Code of Conduct that upholds the principles and values of the organization and the members should recognize that at all times, they have a duty of care to all Branksome members.

Academy Sport Leader will:


Coach an Academy Team. Promote sport in all its diversity, generate interest through communicating with the Ultra-net, Assemblies, MS and HS Advisory, Athletics Director, Athletics Council and Residence Team. Support the management of academy teams by liaising with the team coach. Be prepared to share ideas and deliver appropriate coach clinics depending on the age, need and ability of coaches and players Support the running of Junior School Festival Days (refereeing, score table etc.). Support the running Inter House Events (refereeing, score table etc.). Liaise with AD regarding the LTSD Plan. Nathan Janes - Athletics Director

Liaise with Sport Exchange Schools regarding opportunity to travel. Support the running of Sport Exchanges at Branksome Hall Asia.

In addition a Academy Sport Team Coach/ Co-curricular Athletics Staff will:


Be responsible for the development of the team through the four corners of sport (Fundamental/ Technical, Tactical/ Game Understanding and PSME) and the transdisciplinary themes. Be a role model and display the IB learner profile and essential elements at all times. Take part in at least 1 training session per sport per week + game day (this may include weekends). Be punctual and take responsibility of time keeping for training and games. Take a register for training and game day. Be responsible for the overall welfare and well being of team members. Possess a good understanding of the sport. Prepare practice plans through the use of IT and other resources provided. Encourage high performance and development, yet not at all costs. Set team and individual goals. Be committed for the full season. Possess an updated first aid certificate. Liaise with the Athletics Director with the completion of contact details and student health records. Liaise with the Athletics Director with the completion of health and safety forms. Liaise with the team the manager and Athletics Director with the collection and drop off of equipment. Attend any PD that may enhance performance

In addition a Sport Team Manager will:


Be responsible for the overall welfare and well being of team members and officials when travelling with a team. Is first aid trained. Maintain a duty of care towards team members and be accountable for the management of the team. Assist with the administration of medical forms. Assist with the administration of trip organization and travel facilities. Administrator of equipment. Support with the development of a social network page. Liaise with parents and residence. Liaise with local and national schools (sports exchanges, festival days etc.) Foster a collaborative approach to the management of the team. Take photos and support the writing of match reports and stats for the school and local community. Upload photos and reports onto the athletics ultra-net page Observe team performance. Liaise with the Athletics Director with the completion of contact details. Liaise with the Athletics Director with the completion of health and safety forms. Liaise with the coach and team with regards to kit washing.

In addition an official will:


Officiate matches in a fair, safe manner that ensures spectator enjoyment and player safety. Know the Laws of the Game of the given sport and their interpretations thoroughly.

Condemn unsporting behavior and promote respect for all opponents. Be a good sport. Keep up to date with the latest trends in officiating. Give all people a fair go regardless of their gender, ability, c ultural background or religion. Maintain physical fitness for peak performance. Keep all appointments assigned to and accepted by them. Behave in a way that is ethically and morally beyond reproach. Support fellow officials. Grant players and coaches dignity and self-respect.

In addition an academy player will:


Participate in no more than three academies in one academic year Be motivated, committed and loyal to their team. Arrive on time to training, meetings and games. Wear the appropriate sport wear to training and games. Apply the IB learner profile. Apply the five essential elements. Show respect to all officials, coaches, managers, teammates and opposition. Participate in at least one training session and one game day per week throughout the year. Maintain academic standards. If course work is not submitted, students will be suspended immediately for a maximum of 3 days until completed. Be honest to the coach and team-mates

Co-operation with your Teammates


Be positive towards your teammates and compliment positive play. Commitment to a sport requires you to attend all trainings, meetings and games. If a player cannot attend training, she must personally see the coach to excuse herself from practice. If a student is absent from school she should ring her coach at school to inform them she will not be at practice. Follow the coachs instructions and be a valuable team member.

Requirements of Being a Good Sport


Play hard but play by the rules. Never question the referee and always accept decisions made on the field. Recognize positive contributions made by team-mates and opposition. If watching a game, or whilst being a reserve, only make positive comments from the sideline. If you have any issues regarding opposition players or spectators these should be directed to your coach. Never take the law into your own hands. The school and/or judicial committee of the sport will view foul play very seriously. Branksome has a proud tradition of fair play and this reputation will continue in the future.

Co-operation with your Coach and Manager


Please remember all coaching is done on a voluntary basis, make your coaches job as easy as possible by being appreciative and committed to your team. The coach and team rely on your commitment.

Injuries
Any injury sustained at training or in games, which require medical attention should be reported to the coach. Any injury that requires a student to stay in hospital should be reported to the Athletics Director

Behavior of Parents on the Sideline


Be supportive of your child and the team she is involved in. All comments form the sideline should be unbiased and positive. DO NOT abuse any officials, opposition players or spectators, please remember they perform this role on a voluntary basis. Any inappropriate behavior reflects badly on your child, the team and is likely to tarnish the schools reputation. If you have any issues regarding your childs team, please contact the Athletics Director. We value your support and look forward to seeing you on the sidelines.

Final Word
Athletes are expected to be at all practices, games and championships and to honor their commitment to the team and coach. Any absence must be communicated to the coach in advance. All athletes must abide by the JISAC and KISAC Code of Sportsmanship. Behavior unbecoming of an athlete representing Branksome Hall will not be tolerated and could result in suspension from the team. Athletes must maintain their academic standing; otherwise their participation will be suspended until their academic performance and attitude is deemed to be satisfactory by subject teachers and administration. Athletes must wear appropriate athletic attire for all practices, and team uniforms for games. The Athletics jacket must be worn with black sweat or track pants. While travelling to and from athletic competitions, athletes must wear their Athletics jacket. All athletes must also adhere to the game play uniform requirements outlined by their coaches. If a class is missed because of the athletics schedule, it is the responsibility of the athlete to notify her teacher in advance to make alternative arrangements to make up missed work Nathan Janes Athletics Director
